Sundance: The Swag Report

-------

In terms of swag, Sundance isn’t quite the treasure trove it was a few years ago, when Sienna Miller famously got busted for hoarding freebies and movie fans wore “Focus on Film” pins in protest of celebrity-gifting suites.

Still, there’s no reason a product-toting Diesel publicist wouldn’t chase down Kristen Stewart’s publicist in broad daylight, as reportedly happened this year at the Main Street ski lift. The denim company had a station at a gifting lounge headlined by Lia Sophia, where the jewelry company’s reps found themselves sweet-talking more men than women. Ben Affleck presumably passed on his goody bag to Jennifer Garner, and Harvey Weinstein got on the phone with Georgina Chapman to ask her in his sweetest voice which chain necklace she fancied.

Across town, Fred Segal Fun, home of the I Heart Ronson booth, was doing brisk “business.” Kate Mara picked up a denim jacket and a white motorcycle jacket, America Ferrera took a brown bomber jacket, and Kristen Bell got a pair of sequin tops from the designer’s affordable JCPenney line. Opening weekend’s most-worn swag item was probably either Ronson’s black-and-yellow plaid shirt or the puffy coats being handed out a few booths over at KR3W—not to just anyone, of course. With the swag hunt afoot, guardians of goodies like George Gina & Lucy handbags and EMU sheepskin boots were left to distinguish “randoms” from desirable “customers” at Tilda Swinton’s end of the food chain. The fashion-forward actress had some Ronson samples sent her way—perhaps saving her a trip to JCPenney.

She Loves Rock ‘N’ Roll

-------

For this month’s beauty icon, we paid tribute to one of punk’s leading ladies: Joan Jett, the L.A. girl who could rock as hard as any of the boys—and look better than most of ‘em doing it. (We’re predicting a revival of the Jett shag when Kristen Stewart plays Joan onscreen later this year.) The photos tell part of the story, but to get it in surround sound, you need to see the lady herself in gritty, balls-to-the-wall action, as at this live performance in New Jersey, 1983 (below). “Only two words,” Jett growls at the crowd. “Oh. Yeah.” Couldn’t have said it better ourselves.

Yea, Nay, or Eh: Dakota Fanning Gives Us The Slip

-------

On a red carpet populated with the likes of Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner (vampire, moody starlet, and werewolf, respectively), the best strategy for a secondary star may be not to show up at all. Not so Dakota Fanning. We barely recognized the teen thespian at New Moon‘s L.A. premiere (Fanning plays a pint-size but sinister bloodsucker), but that’s only because her slick-straight locks and grown-up poise are such a far cry from the adolescent Marc Jacobs model we once knew. We love the peekaboo lace Valentino dress but wonder if the camp that denounced Miley Cyrus’ precocious turn in Vanity Fair will find it too risqué for Miss Fanning. She may look like a mini Gwyneth Paltrow, but she’s still only 15. What do you think of her nighttime look? Leave your comments below.

Yea, Nay, Or Eh: Kristen Stewart Has All The Luck

-------

Love it or hate it, there’s no escaping the power of Twilight. Nor, it seems, is there any escaping the power of Kristen Stewart. The vampire-loving starlet has been linked to her broodingly handsome co-star Robert Pattinson (the tabloids’ infatuation with their boyfriend-girlfriend status makes Brangelina-baiting look tame) and gets to cozy up to super-ripped teen heartthrob Taylor Lautner in New Moon, out next week. But the kicker for fashion folk came today in London, where Stewart walked the red carpet in brand-spankin’-new Spring 2010 Proenza Schouler. And not just any Proenza Schouler. The young lady got her hands on Look 20, arguably the best look in a show full of serious contenders. Before we consider how Stewart snagged the goods before more diehard (no, not twi-hard) Proenza fans like Chloë Sevigny or Kirsten Dunst did, let’s open the comments up to whether or not she pulled it off. Does Stewart’s red-carpet innocence work with this graphic look, or does she need to channel her inner surfer girl? Leave your comments below.

Amanda Kain: Pocket Ace

-------

Fast favorites among starlets like Sienna Miller, Rachel Bilson, and Kristen Stewart, last year’s Kain Label pocket tees and tanks are no fleeting trend. Just in time for summer, the Los Angeles boutique Vionnet is launching a limited-edition capsule collection of SoCal native Amanda Kain’s signature designs, but with their drapey pockets rendered in silk charmeuse. Available in white, black, mauve, and gray, they’re perfect under the season’s boyfriend blazers or topping one of the ubiquitous high-waisted skirts. Best of all, the Robertson Boulevard shop is offering 20 percent off qualifying purchases on its Web site today, when you enter the code “KAIN” at checkout. Happy shopping.
