Beatz And Bubbly

-------

Dom Pierre Pérignon famously said, “Come quickly, I am drinking the stars!” Guests invited to the Dom Pérignon Luminous launch party last night heeded the founder’s words closely—they came quickly and drank even faster. By midnight, a Soho loft on Wooster Street, marked with graffiti and decked with bottles of glow-in-the-dark Pérignon bottles, was brimming with a mix of hoteliers (André Balazs), actresses (Leighton Meester and Bai Ling), designers (Brian Atwood), photographers (Mick Rock), and ballers (Carmelo Anthony). The only thing missing? Bubbly.

In less than two hours, guests had downed over 220 bottles of Dom. “I don’t drink often,” DJ Swizz Beatz told Style.com. “But when you see a bottle of this stuff, you know it’s impressive—it’s all class.” While guests awaited for the emergency supply of Champagne to arrive (and occasionally picked up the display bottles hoping they might be full), Swizz Beatz manned the turntables and scantily clad dancers kept them entertained. When the cases finally arrived, Swizz Beatz took a break from deejaying to toast with Anthony upstairs in the VIP area. When he paused to stop by the bar, the DJ had fashion on his mind. “I have been talking to Riccardo at Givenchy, and we are thinking about doing some insane accessories,” he said.

The Campaigns Keep Coming

-------

With January issues now in hand and February issues soon to arrive, it’s officially Spring ’11 ad season. And while we’ve brought you exclusive debuts from Michael Kors, Giorgio Armani, Valentino, Yves Saint Laurent, and Pringle of Scotland, we didn’t want to leave out any other worthy competitors either. Below, a roundup of some recent strong showings, from Lindsey Wixson for Alexander McQueen to Leighton Meester for Missoni (above, left to right). Continue Reading “The Campaigns Keep Coming” »

Short And Sweet To The Stage?

-------

The silhouettes we’ve been seeing on the runways and at our pre-fall appointments have been long, long, long. But no matter—at last night’s People’s Choice Awards, the celebrities (and their stylists) spoke, and they said “short.” Thigh-grazing frocks were the look of the evening, from Leighton Meester’s flower-embroidered Vionnet to Taylor Swift’s J. Mendel (the same dress recently seen on Natalie Portman on the cover of Vogue). And in what could be an argument for dressing for the award you want to win, Kristen Stewart looked as glittering as a gold trophy in her Reem Acra minidress—and beat Angelina Jolie to walk off with the Favorite Movie Actress prize.

A Trio Takes On Vuitton, Angels Just Wanna Have Fun, What Margherita’s Wearing, And More…

-------

Is three the charm for Louis Vuitton? Following last season’s ad campaign, with Christy Turlington, Natalia Vodianova, and Karen Elson, the label is reportedly featuring another trio for its Spring ’11 ads: Kristen McMenamy (left, who closed the Spring show in painted-on zebra stripes), Freja Beha Erichsen, and Raquel Zimmermann, shot by Steven Meisel. Missed last night’s Victoria’s Secret Show telecast? Our own Tommy Ton was backstage—and he and collaborator Justin Wu captured a few of the girls lip-syncing along to a Cyndi Lauper classic you won’t see in the show. [Jak and Jil]

Margherita Maccapani Missoni is the lateset style star to take on daily-style-blogging duties at British Vogue‘s Today I’m Wearing online feature. Today? You guessed it—she’s wearing Missoni. [Vogue U.K.]

Red Carpet Fashion Awards notices an uptick in menswear-on-women: Leighton Meester wore Thom Browne to the Gotham Awards in New York, and Jessica Alba (at the Footwear News awards), Lara Bingle, and Winona Ryder (at the Black Swan premiere) followed, ahem, suit. [Red Carpet Fashion Awards]

And if you liked Kate Middleton’s now-famous Issa dress—the one she announced her engagement to Prince William in—good news: It’s coming to Net-A-Porter. In January. To your N-A-P “Wish Lists,” ladies. [Huffington Post]

Yea, Nay, Or Eh? Leighton In Lace

-------

At last night’s Harry Winston “Court of Jewels” launch, Leighton Meester got enviably decked in diamonds—a Winston three-row diamond necklace, Cluster earrings, and Loop bracelet, to be exact. But even with jewels lavish enough for a crown princess, Meester was channeling a pretty contemporary court. She chose a sheer lace Marchesa jumpsuit with a plunging neckline, worn with peep-toe suede Nicholas Kirkwood heels and a deep fuchsia lip. Leave it to Leighton—never shy on the red carpet—to combine glamour with a little grrr. We like it. Do you?
