LITTER On The Runway

Christian Cota managed a neat little double play Sunday night, when Leighton Meester and Eva Longoria Parker were snapped rocking Cota on red carpets on either coast. And when we say “either coast,” what we mean—obviously—is that Leighton was in Manhattan and Longoria Parker was in L.A. Are there any other places that matter, style-wise? Rachael Mann and Mackenzie Burdick are currently making the case for the Bay. The San Francisco-based sisters design the line LITTER, launched last year, which includes headpieces and body jewelry made (primarily) from secondhand jewelry the designers pick up at thrifts and flea markets. The sisters’ chains that go over boots and shoes have already earned their brand some chatter. This afternoon, the buzz is due to rise to a roar, as new LITTER pieces make their appearance on the girls at the Christian Cota presentation. As Cota explained between fittings, his show stylist happened upon LITTER on a trip to San Fran a few months back, so she did the natural thing and coaxed the designers back to New York. Congrats, girls: Now that you’re here, you matter.

Yea, Nay, Or Eh: What Would Eleanor Waldorf Say About This?

Blame it on the Gossip Girl costume department, but Leighton Meester won our hearts with the fashionably prim getups she dons to play Blair Waldorf. As if to shake the notion that she lives in headbands, Meester has lately taken to showing up on red carpets in somewhat challenging ensembles (her Louis Vuitton Met ball outfit comes to mind). The Christopher Kane Resort dress she wore to a Hamptons event this weekend is not her most daring look, sure, but the cutouts and mushroom-cloud print don’t exactly qualify as “playing it safe.” We’re on the fence about this one. Should Meester’s adventurous spirit be applauded or is she better off sticking to a silhouette that works?

Visions Of Youth At Calvin Klein

A solid crowd of models (Maryna, Nimue, Madisyn, Behati, Zuzana) and some rather elated students gathered at the Calvin Klein store on Madison Avenue last night. The Parsons Fashion Benefit 2009 Pre-Party, as the event was rather laboriously called, was a warm-up of sorts for the real thing, which is scheduled for April 29 at Cipriani Wall Street and will honor the label’s president and CEO, Tom Murry, and its creative director, Francisco Costa. The latter had a few choice words for the students, whose graduation collections were on display: “Never lose your excitement. Never, ever put it to rest.” Speaking of excitement, Leighton Meester, who was also in attendance, couldn’t disguise hers for the Spring runway dress she was wearing. “I feel like the dress really speaks for itself. It’s really flawless, on the hanger, on the body. I feel like a million bucks.” Many of the other guests pawed through the racks; a percentage of the evening’s proceeds went toward Parsons.
