Runway to Red Carpet: Bright Hues With an All-Black Streak

-------

RihannaWhile we’ve been seeing a recent surge in color thanks to the warmer weather, a handful of stars chose classic all-black ensembles for their red-carpet appearances this week. On Saturday, Anne Hathaway attended A Night Under the Stars at Nickelodeon Animation Studio in L.A. in a black vintage Chanel blouse printed with “No Smoking” in several languages over a black maxi skirt. The same night, Leslie Mann took to the red carpet in Saint Laurent’s Spring ’14 tuxedo-inspired jumpsuit at the American Comedy Awards in New York. On Thursday, Rihanna layered a Givenchy leather biker jacket over a sheer black lace gown from the Fall ’08 Haute Couture runway for the iHeartRadio Music Awards, where she picked up the trophy for Artist of the Year.

Despite the black streak, there was still plenty of color. Kiernan Shipka donned a bold blue Prabal Gurung Pre-Fall ’14 frock adorned with beads and feathers on the skirt for the premiere of God’s Pocket at LACMA on Thursday in L.A. In Houston, Naomi Watts chose an equally vivid hue, stepping out in a sunny yellow Preen Pre-Fall ’14 floral dévoré dress for a gala to celebrate the BVLGARI: 130 Years of Masterpieces exhibition launch.

Runway to Red Carpet: Summer-Ready Stars and an Impeccable Royal Tour

-------

Emma StoneFrom blockbuster premieres to opening-night fetes, the red carpet saw plenty of A-list action this week. The Other Woman‘s trio of leading ladies stepped it up for the L.A. premiere, opting for summer-ready dresses. Cameron Diaz smoldered in a Stella McCartney LBD, while Kate Upton donned a silver Dolce & Gabbana mini smattered with white floral appliqués. Leslie Mann went for a bright and breezy Spring ’14 Monique Lhuillier floor-length number with a pink bodice and fiery skirt.

Kate Middleton continued her Royal Australian tour, and, per usual, she’s been impeccably dressed for every outing. We’ve noticed that the Duchess of Cambridge has been wearing a slew of American designers, including Diane von Furstenberg, Lela Rose, and Jenny Packham, to name a few. Paired with a navy hat and a red poppy pin, the blue and white Michael Kors Spring ’14 coatdress she stepped out in for the ANZAC Day march and commemorative service on Friday morning was a highlight.

Topping this week’s best-dressed list was Emma Stone, who chose a sophisticated Prada number for the premiere of her new film, The Amazing Spider-Man 2. The nude georgette slipdress was suspended by a sleek metal harness and boasted plunging sides. Finished off with strappy silver sandals from the Italian powerhouse, the look was one of Stone’s best yet.

They’re On A Boat

Name that designer: “I thought it would be kind of hilarious to pair a cougar with two younger dudes and see what kind of story would come out of it.”

Rashida Jones Knows Her Next Red-Carpet Look

-------

“I was actually on Style.com today,” said Rashida Jones last night at the debut of Lacoste’s Pink Croc Collection benefiting the Breast Cancer Research Foundation in Los Angeles. “I went on because I have a friend at the shows in Paris and she told me I had to check out Stella McCartney and Lanvin.” Well, what a wise pal. Jones was out to support her friend Leslie Mann, who hosted the event to debut the eight-piece collection, which sends a whopping 10 percent of its profits to the cause. Jones stole away from the comedic dream team in attendance (Judd Apatow, Jason Segel, and Michael Cera) to dish on her favorite shows so far. “Stella was amazing; she’s just so feminine with those exaggerated ruffles,” she said. “And Lanvin was just sickening…my friend said she literally wanted to throw herself on the stage.” So, what could we expect to see her in next? “There was this Stella McCartney printed green dress that had a ruffle on the sleeve in the show,” said Jones. “It was just perfect.”
