The Little Black Jacket Hits NYC, And More Of Today’s Top Stories
Karl Lagerfeld and Carine Roitfeld’s much-hyped The Little Black Jacket traveling exhibition kicks off tonight with a party in Soho for celebrities and fashion industry insiders. The week-long homage to the French house classic will open to the public on Friday, with 113 black-and-white photographs of A-listers such as Sarah Jessica Parker, Joan Smalls, and Yoko Ono, who adapted the iconic jacket to fit their own personal style. Paris men’s fashion week just got a little bigger. Band of Outsiders and Hardy Amies have both been confirmed to show for the first time during the June lineup. And in true Band of Outsiders fashion, the label’s designer, Scott Sternberg, has taken matters into his own hands, tapping one model to act as a living mannequin, who will show off all the looks during the course of a 60-hour period and live in a cardboard and wood plank box. Amies will show as part of the official calendar. [WWD]
A month after parting ways with former designer Manish Arora, Paco Rabanne has promoted its young studio design director, Lydia Maurer, to creative director of its womenswear. German-born Maurer, just 29, will present her first collection for the house during Paris fashion week in October and will also oversee accessories. [WWD]
Are Shaun White and Lily Collins a thing? Following Monday night’s CFDA Awards, rumors have been flying that the Olympic snowboarder is pursuing the young Mirror Mirror actress after a short stint with model Bar Refaeli. Reps for both had no comment. [Page Six]
Dita Von Teese Antiques In Antiques
“I’m always looking for eclectic, interesting pieces that go in my style of house,” said Courteney Cox Arquette at the opening-night preview party of the L.A. Antiques Show. Though, she conceded, “I don’t even know what that is.” Whatever it may be, odds are good she’ll find something at the annual show. She was playing hostess as well as shopper last night, alongside Decades’ Cameron Silver, Dita Von Teese, Kimberly Brooks, and jeweler Jennifer Meyer, at the fête to kick off the four-day show. Her fellow browsers—Marcia Cross (in YSL), Lily Collins, and Chris Klein among them—braved the unseasonable cold to shop for a cause. (The evening raised money for the L.A. arts organization P.S. ARTS, which serves 12,000 students.) Some were on the hunt for specifics: Amber Valletta (in Jenni Kayne) just remodeled her home and was after a dining room table, some chairs, and a desk. Others eyes turned to the fashions. “I didn’t think I’d be wearing fur at this time of year,” said Silver, in a custom Funtastic Furs jacket and Jaspare python tie. Did it lack pockets? “I left my credit card in the car,” he admitted. “But I’m good for it.” His friend Dita Von Teese opted for a vintage, full-skirted dress.”I figured, why would I wear something new to an antiques gala?” she said. “The word ‘gala’ doesn’t mean anything in California, but I don’t care.”
Wu Gives Women What They Want

Jason Wu blew into a particularly blustery L.A. yesterday for a pre-party to celebrate his Spring 2010 trunk show at Neiman Marcus. “It’s such a different world out here and the weather is so nice—except for the wind,” said Wu. “But I have no hair, so I don’t have to worry.” If the hairdos of guests like Jessica Stroup, Lily Collins, Amber Heard, and Katie Cassidy were on the artfully undone side, their frocks were, in signature Wu fashion, perfectly pulled together. “I saw a dress that I wanted to wear for Cannes, so I requested that they send it over for me to try on,” remarked hostess Diane Kruger. “Jason showed up personally, which I thought was so sweet, and fit me right there. We’ve been friends ever since.” With half of the Neiman Marcus stock already sold before his personal appearance even started, Wu reflected on his success. “It’s been a big year,” he said. “All women want is to look beautiful and I’m here for them.”
Zac Posen’s Western Adventure
Call it an early birthday party. Just hours shy of ringing in his 29th, Zac Posen took a break from back-to-back sales appointments, a client brunch and trunk show at Neiman’s in Beverly Hills, to hold an impromptu fête and fashion show at Bar Marmont. In between showing off the Spring 2010 collection—applause was especially heavy for look 36—Posen caught up with his L.A.-based friends like Rosson Crow (pictured at left with Posen), the Like’s Tennessee Thomas, and Zoe Saldana, who wore the designer’s sculpted Lily Pad Lotus print dress.
Teen phenom Lily Collins took a spin on the designer’s arm right as L.A. mainstay Anthony Kiedis walked in and headed straight to a table where the motley crew of Fred Durst, David Spade, and Ron Burkle were holding court. Even though Posen was headed straight back to his Tribeca studio over the weekend, he did make time for at least a little pleasure on his business trip out west. When pressed, he finally admitted, “I actually went to the Hollywood Walk of Fame and the [Grauman’s] Chinese Theater earlier today. I had to see how small Judy Garland’s feet were.”
