Naomi Campbell’s well-practiced snarl has found a perfect new outlet: The Fall ’11 Givenchy campaign, shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott. Campbell is one of the major faces to front spots for Givenchy’s feline women’s collection, alongside Natalia Vodianova, Kristen McMenamy, and house favorite Mariacarla Boscono. (Though unlike in seasons past, each is shot separately, rather than in a roving pack.) Meanwhile, Rob Evans and Jonathan Marquez do the honors for the Rottweiler-inspired men’s collection. Above, the exclusive debut of the Naomi image (and below, a look at Evans’). Plus, the exclusive behind-the-scenes video, featuring the entire cast on the growl. Grrr!
With January issues now in hand and February issues soon to arrive, it’s officially Spring ’11 ad season. And while we’ve brought you exclusive debuts from Michael Kors, Giorgio Armani, Valentino, Yves Saint Laurent, and Pringle of Scotland, we didn’t want to leave out any other worthy competitors either. Below, a roundup of some recent strong showings, from Lindsey Wixson for Alexander McQueen to Leighton Meester for Missoni (above, left to right). Continue Reading “The Campaigns Keep Coming” »
Since Victoria Beckham is one of my favorite (and valid) celebrity designers, I won’t be making any snide ladder climbing metaphors about her new Emporio Armani underwear campaign that just came out this morning. The images are quite the opposite of last season’s, which featured the global brand ambassadors languidly smoldering in some sort of boudoir. The latest pics, also shot by photog pair extraordinaire Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, are somewhat more athletic in nature: Mrs. Becks climbing a ladder sporting a gravity-defying ponytail, heels and not much more, and the pair posing with an enormous rope that I’m associating with the one that you were required to clamber up in grade school gym class. The couple (who together make a cool 32 million GBP for their work) certainly do justice to the unmentionables, and their perfect physiques make you want to hit the gym or perhaps move to an alternate airbrushed universe. What do you think of the new ad?
It seems that fashion’s Spring 2009 infatuation with celebrity campaign faces isn’t ending with Madonna for Louis Vuitton and Katie Holmes for Miu Miu. According to Style File’s sources, Scarlett Johansson has not only inked a deal to front a beauty campaign for Italian giants Dolce & Gabbana, she’s already been shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott for the gig. While the details are still under wraps— whether the campaign is for a new fragrance, or something else—one thing we can bet on is that it wasn’t a stretch for Scarlett to pour her curvy frame into the clothes. Not only has she worn the house’s wares on multiple occasions, she was also Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce’s date for this year’s Met ball. They say these things happen in threes. Perhaps the Madonna/ Katie/Scarlett celebrity fashion triumvirate is now complete. We can think of at least one group that hopes it’s so: models.
