Jet-Setting With Caroline Trentini, And More Of Today’s Top Stories

Caroline Trentini (pictured) has been missing from the runway for a few seasons now, but her modeling days aren’t completely over. The Brazilian beauty stars in Paule Ka’s Fall ad campaign, shot by Venetia Scott at a mythical airport in Berlin. Trentini looks glamorous with a bouffantlike hairstyle and a crocodile handbag paired with a metallic skirt. She sure knows how totravel in style. [Paule Ka]

The American Idol judges are playing a serious game of musical chairs. Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler are officially “out” and Mariah Carey is officially “in.” The pop singer and mom of twins will join the show, leading a potential full replacement of judges. “I am so excited to be starting Idol,” Carey said in a recent interview. Designer Diary: Designer Wilfredo Rosado’s Postcard from Morocco, Capri, and Monte Carlo

Before launching his namesake fine-jewelry line, designer Wilfredo Rosado worked as fashion director at Armani. It was during his time there that he struck up a friendship with Mariah Carey while he helped dress her for events (circa 1990, the same year her debut album, Mariah Carey, was released). They remain friends, and recently Carey invited Rosado and a few other pals to join her on a get-away to Morocco, Capri, and Monte Carlo. Here, Rosado shares his trip exclusively with

“Our first stop: Morocco!”

“One of the attendants at the Mausoleum of Mohammed V. He has a very sixties feel with his fez and pale pink jacket. “

“Morocco is a world of inspiration, from color, to taste, to smell. I spotted this woman walking down an alley and loved the unintentional composition of color.”

“The view of Capri from Anacapri.”

“Coolest taxi in Capri! It’s a 1960′s Fiat convertible.”

“My travel buddies, [from left to right] Louise McNally, Kristofer Buckle, me, Mariah Carey, Rachel McIntosh, Erica Jackson, and Randy Jackson.”

The Fashion Set Fêtes Precious

This year’s little movie that could is shaping up to be Precious, the inspirational tale of a supremely disadvantaged teenager in eighties Harlem. The curious crowd that dropped by last night’s Cinema Society screening for a preview included Donna Karan, Agyness Deyn, and Tommy Hilfiger, the evening’s sponsor.

Sure, it’s a big deal now. But before the game-changer known as Oprah, who signed on as executive producer after the indie film’s Sundance triumph, the fate of Precious was less than certain. “I didn’t know if it would just end up on Netflix, with us having the premiere at my mother’s house,” cast member Paula Patton said before the screening, which took place at the Crosby Street Hotel. She was in a buoyant mood, despite a dress that looked just about ready to pop. “It’s too tight to find out, but we’re pretty sure it’s Tadashi Shoji,” Patton joked.

Mariah Carey, Lenny Kravitz, and (in a bravura turn that’s surprised just about everyone) Mo’Nique round out the cast. Although none of them came by last night, the film’s breakout star, Gabby Sidibe, cruised through the after-party, and Colin Powell (not exactly a regular at movie premieres) made a surprise visit. What does it mean when a little movie comes with so many big names? “It means the movie better show and prove,” offered Terrence Howard. Judging from the responsive audience last night, this one is doing both.

Blasblog: The Caviar Countdown To DVF’s Russian Bash

I won’t lie: The notion of giving up Mariah Carey and the beaches of Rio, where I was for Fashion Rocks earlier this week, for the subzero temperatures of Moscow was a hard one to swallow. But not long after arriving here for the events surrounding Diane von Furstenberg’s exhibition opening, I found some things that really helped it go down: vodka and black caviar. DVF’s festivities in the Russian capital began last night with a cocktail party in her store on Kuzneckiy Most Street, followed by a dinner at the decadent and quintessentially Russian Pushkin Café hosted by Moscow’s reigning retail queen, Landau Fashion Group’s Aizel Trudel.

Tonight sees the opening of the two-part DVF retrospective—a series of dresses designed by von Furstenberg, and a selection of art she has commissioned—but at dinner, the ladies got a chance to relax and blow off steam. (There had been some stress in the preparations: Apparently getting art into the country is as hard as sneaking Soviet relics out.) But everyone was in a good mood after a few buckets of the good stuff. Von Furstenberg told a story about an enthusiastic masseur who announced, “I like to give pleasure”—only in regard to his massage prowess, surely, but she stayed on her iPhone for much of the session, just in case.

Husband Barry Diller, meanwhile, revealed that he’s a big deal in Russia because he has a nice boat, which he explained wasn’t a bad reason, all things considered. (Others are notorious in the country for far worse.) In fact, the only scary point for the guest of honor was when Trudel announced the guest list for tonight’s event: 6,000 are confirmed. “That many people are coming to see pictures of me?” von Furstenberg blushed. Today I bumped into three familiar faces—Naomi Campbell, Natalia Vodianova (who was literally swarmed on the street), and Kate Bosworth—who will be among them. Check back on Monday for my report on the remaining 5,997.

Postcard: Brian Reyes Wishes You Were There

Greetings from St. Bart’s! This year Mariah Carey hosted an amazing New Year’s Eve party and invited my boyfriend and me to attend. After a late start—we missed our first flight by three minutes—we arrived in St. Bart’s just in time for the festivities. Jay-Z , Beyoncé, Timbaland, Marc Jacobs, Veronica Webb, Nick Cannon, and Erica and LA Reid were all there and danced the night away. After grabbing some coffee the next morning, I jumped in our Jeep and headed over to the famous Saline Beach for some much needed R&R and ran into my friend Olivia Palermo. I guess we both had the same thing in mind: to spend the day relaxing in the sun! Here’s a picture of me in front of our waterfront villa in St. Jean. It was definitely the perfect place to recoup and wind down before spring fashion week begins.
