When in Rome…

Armani's Eccentrico exhibition

Throw an epic party—or, at least, that’s Giorgio Armani’s plan of action. At 3 p.m., we’ll be taking you inside Armani’s One Night Only Roma,—a celebration of Italy (and the brand’s new Via Condotti boutique) that will feature a triple runway event (the Fall ’13 Giorgio Armani and Emporio Armani collections will hit the catwalk, as will the Spring ’13 Armani Privé range), the opening of the expanded Eccentrico exhibition, which first made its debut in Milan in September, and a cocktail party and dinner. The house expects the likes of Sophia Loren, Milla Jovovich, Tina Turner, and, of course, Mr. Armani to descend upon Rome’s Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana for the festivities. Before our live stream kicks off (below), take a peek inside the Eccentrico exhibition (above), or browse through Armani’s exclusive content at www.onenightonly.armani.com.

Armani Takes a Roman Holiday

Giorgio Armani's Fall '13 ads

Tonight, Giorgio Armani and co. will head to Rome to open his new boutique on Via Condotti (think Italy’s answer to Madison Avenue). But this is Armani we’re talking about, so, naturally, there will be a grande event to celebrate the store. At 3 p.m., Style.com will live-stream the house’s One Night Only Roma—a fete that will feature runway shows of the Fall ’13 collections from Giorgio Armani and Emporio Armani, as well as the Armani Privé Spring collection, the opening of Armani’s Eccentrico exhibition, and, of course, una festa with plenty of star power (Milla Jovovich, Tina Turner, and Sophia Loren will all be in attendance). Armani, which has, in the past, hosted similar events in London, Tokyo, and Beijing, has also given us a sneak peek at its Fall ’13 campaign. Lensed by Mert & Marcus and starring Mariacarla Boscono and Florian Van Bael, the snaps have a slick, futuristic edge. Take a peek at the campaign’s exclusive debut (above), and check back this afternoon for the live stream of Giorgio Armani’s One Night Only Roma show and party. For more information on the event, and to view exclusive interviews, visit onenightonly.armani.com.

From the Catwalk to the Carpet: Models Take Over at Cannes

Doutzen Kroes, Joan Smalls, and Barbara Palvin in Cannes

Every year, the crème de la crème of the film industry get glammed up to hobnob and vamp for the paparazzi at the Cannes Film Festival. While A-listers such as Jessica Chastain, Nicole Kidman, Marion Cotillard, Carey Mulligan, and Zoe Saldana have made an impressive showing thus far, they’ve arguably been eclipsed by the contingent of top-tier catwalkers who have flocked to the red carpets en masse. Yesterday, in particular, was a model-watcher’s paradise, with the likes of Joan Smalls, Petra Nemcova, Barbara Palvin, Chanel Iman, Jessica Hart, and Erin Heatherton posing for the cameras like the pros that they are. Milla Jovovich, Liya Kebede, and Doutzen Kroes were snapped multiple times earlier in the week, and Yasmin Warsame and Irina Lazareanu made some memorable cameos, too. Presumably, even more runway regulars will turn up at the amfAR blowout on Thursday—we’ve got it on authority that Liu Wen and Karolina Kurkova are already in town. Sorry, starlets. When it comes to posing and strutting in borrowed gowns, models simply do it best.

Tao Okamoto Trades the Catwalk for the Silver Screen

Although she starred in the recent Mario Sorrenti-lensed Rihanna for River Island campaign (above), Japanese model Tao Okamoto has largely been missing from the catwalk. And now, our suspicions as to why have been confirmed. The trailer for the new X-Men film, The Wolverine (out this summer), was released today, and guess who plays Wolverine’s (i.e., Hugh Jackman’s) love interest, Mariko Yashida? Sure, we know the stigma surrounding the “model-slash-actress” title, but perhaps Okamoto will follow in the footsteps of peers like Milla Jovovich and Amber Valletta to make her mark. Take a peek at Okamoto’s acting debut in the film’s trailer, below.

The Ultimate Cesar

“To cookbook or not to cookbook?”

That was the question model Cesar Casier asked in a post on his blog in April of last year, and his answer came shortly after, when a publisher reached out to the 24-year-old Belgian (pictured) and decided to help make his dream a reality. “I have a bucket list of things I want to do in my life, like make a club hit, go to Sydney, go bungee jumping, etcetera, and also, make a cookbook,” said Casier, who has walked major runways including Saint Laurent, Dior, and Missoni, and appeared in the pages of Paris Vogue, Elle, and L’Officiel, to name a few. These days, Casier is perhaps most recognized as the current face of Armani Exchange. But that might soon change when he debuts his first cookbook Model Kitchen, featuring 75 eat-clean recipes (some of which are contributions from his top model pals) and gorgeous food and fashion photos, next month. “I have this great passion for food and for fashion. I left home for modeling and I didn’t want to go to all these fast-food restaurants, so I started to learn to cook,” Casier, who is now based in New York, explains. “So, I decided to make a cookbook about what models eat.”

And let’s be honest, who doesn’t want to know what models eat to stay looking so good? You won’t find any revolutionary stay-thin secrets in Model Kitchen, but you will, however, find healthy recipes that are easy and affordable to make, along with Casier’s favorite dining destinations in the major fashion cities. “They aren’t touristy places, they are where I like to go with my model friends for a great cup of coffee or a drink,” he says. (Think: Café Gitane or Peels in New York.) “We did so much research, and there isn’t a book like this out there—not even Heidi Klum has done it,” adds Casier, who did the book almost completely on his own in between shoots with Steven Klein or Carine Roitfeld, from creating the recipes to the food-styling to the photos. But he also got by with a little help from his friends, including Derek Blasberg, who wrote the forward, styling by Tom Van Dorpe, and contributions from 12 of his top model friends, Lily Donaldson, Milla Jovovich, Karlie Kloss, Lindsey Wixson, and Bette Franke among them. From Jovovich’s baked salmon with asparagus and Julia Restoin-Roitfeld’s chicken dish, to Casier’s juice cleanses and Skinny Dips (good for carrots, not chips, folks), it’s all in there. Here, Style.com has the exclusive first glimpse inside the book, along with his signature Cesar salad recipe, before the tome goes on sale in Belgium early next month. Look out for Model Kitchen in select stores in the U.S. shortly after.
