You’ve Been Framed

Launching a new jeans line in today’s highly saturated market is no easy task, but Frame Denim‘s Erik Torstensson and Jens Grede have a definite leg up on the competition. The Swedish entrepreneurial duo share the editor in chief role at Industrie magazine and cofounded the Saturday Group, which represents influential fashion brands through its creative, talent, and public relations agencies. “For the first time in a long while, we felt we had the headspace to do something new. Doing a denim brand for our friends, many of them in the fashion industry themselves, was something Erik and I always wanted,” Grede told Style.com. “We were and are driven about doing something perfect. Frame is a passion project that got serious.”

Produced entirely in Venice, California, Frame jeans have a classic, slim fit and come in basic washes. “We wanted that fashion look in that California quality, and I think we made it happen,” said Grede. The “Le Skinny de Jeanne” style has already been spotted on the likes of Miranda Kerr, Dree Hemingway, and Anja Rubik—talk about strategic product placement. Frame’s premiere collection also offers the “Garçon,” which is more of a relaxed, boyfriend cut (but still skinny), as well as colored jeans and cutoff shorts. The collection launches at Barneys and Barneys.com today. Torstensson and Grede created a zippy video for the collection starring Jessica Miller, which debuts here on Style.com (below). And there’s more where that came from—the duo plans to produce a fashion film each season.


Rag & Bone’s Double DIY

Rag & Bone’s Spring ’13 campaign may have featured polished Alasdair McLellan-lensed images of Kate Moss, but that doesn’t mean designers Marcus Wainwright and David Neville have gone all glossy on us. Today, Rag & Bone revives its DIY Project for the rag & bone/JEAN line. Having originated in 2011, the experimental ads have previously starred the likes of Miranda Kerr, Karolina Kurkova, and Candice Swanepoel (just to name a few), each of whom were given a digital camera, a bag of rag & bone/ JEAN clothes, and free range to shoot and wear whatever they pleased.

“We think [the DIY Project] is a unique way to show the styles of these cool girls, and it also gives people the opportunity to see their respective personalities and experiences,” says Neville. This season, the designers offer a DIY double whammy, having asked both Camille Rowe (above) and Poppy Delevingne (below) to document their rag & bone/JEAN experiences. “I shot my campaign in Mustique, where I was with my boyfriend, sister and friends for New Year’s. I also took some photos in London, which is where my home and heart lie. The final part was taken by my boyfriend in the fields of West Sussex,” said Delevingne. French-born, New York-based Rowe also had her boyfriend snap some images, which show the model in her Soho loft. “I think he’s a pretty talented photographer,” says Wainwright. Spring’s Shady Ladies

The accessory of the season isn’t a shoe or a bag. Here at Style.com, we’re going with the wide-brimmed hat. Variations on the statement-making topper turned up at Victoria Beckham, Acne, and Costume National, but, in our view, the brims to beat are Hedi Slimane’s at Saint Laurent. Since the Spring shows, floppy felt chapeaux have all but replaced fedoras on the street. Recently, we’ve spotted models Miranda Kerr, Tilda Lindstam, and Daiane Conterato wearing them. Elizabeth Olsen is in the fan club, too.

Footwear News’ Lifetime Achiever Has The Kate Middleton Vote Locked Up

According to Stuart Weitzman, earning a lifetime achievement award could be considered a nudge toward an exodus from the industry. “Twenty-six years ago they gave me my first award, which was Man of the Year,” recalled the designer who took home the Lifetime Achievement Award at last night’s 26th Annual Footwear News Achievement Awards held at the Museum of Modern Art. “Now I think they’re trying to retire me.” Despite his jests, the 71-year-old designer (above) shows no signs of slowing down. Selling two million pairs of shoes each year, Weitzman continues to outfit well-heeled women across the globe in his signature 50/50 boots and demure heels. He counts Angelina Jolie, Beyoncé (who even sent in a congratulatory video tribute for Weitzman), and Kate Middleton as fans. Most recently, the latter turned up at London’s Olympic Games in his Corkswoon wedge, turning the stacked style into an instant hit. “She didn’t change her shoes for nine days,” he said. “It was a big deal.”


Among the flurry of footwear fanatics on hand were Miranda Kerr, Tali Lennox, and pop star-turned-designer Fergie, who paired a turquoise Pucci dress with her own Holly pumps. “I love a platform because my husband is so much taller than I am,” the singer admitted. “He’s always leaning over to kiss me.” Even presenter Victor Cruz revealed he’s a “heels guy” and prefers his lady friends in Christian Louboutin or Charlotte Olympia. “I know my stuff,” beamed the New York Giants’ wide receiver. Among the winners of the evening, Charlotte Dellal and Tabitha Simmons (left, with Kerr) took home trophies for Designer of the Year and Style Influencer of the Year respectively, while Rebecca Minkoff earned praise for using Instagram photos in her first print ad campaign (which debuted, by the way, in Style.com/Print). “It was another way that we could connect to our customer and make her feel empowered,” explained Minkoff who, hours earlier, uploaded sandal options for the evening and let her 114k followers decide. No stranger to posting sartorial selfies, Man Repeller’s Leandra Medine lamented over the cons of public forum sharing. “Shoe porn instigates the most heated conversations,” the blogger told Style.com. “The reactions are funny. Amid all the ‘OMG, I love your shoes!’ There’s always the ‘Girl, shave your legs! Why aren’t your toes pedicured!’ It can get pretty hostile.”

The 2012 Olympic Games are gearing up to be quite the fashionable affair. More reports have surfaced that the likes of supermodels Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Lily Cole, Stella Tennant, and Georgia May Jagger are expected to strut their stuff at the closing ceremony in clothes by Alexander McQueen, Stella McCartney, and Vivienne Westwood. The Englishwomen are doing it for love of country rather than financial reward—they’ll receive only 1 pound sterling each for their participation. [Telegraph]

In other supermodel news, Miranda Kerr divulged some of her secrets to Vogue U.K. The Victoria’s Secret stunner says she wanted to be a gymnast when she was younger, but that she was too tall and that modeling was never part of her life plan. Kerr also addressed the rumors of her talent for singing. “I love singing for my own benefit,” she said. “But will there be an album one day? Who knows? Congratulations are in order for Carolina Herrera. The designer will be the recipient of the Superstar Award at Fashion Group International’s Night of Stars gala this coming fall. Herrera joins the ranks of fellow designers Donna Karan, Giorgio Armani, Karl Lagerfeld, Oscar de la Renta, and Nicolas Ghesquière. The annual event will take place on October 25 with a Dreamcatchers theme. [WWD]

How many different variations of a Louis Vuitton handbag can you make? 80,000, apparently. The French house is launching a new service starting July 30, where customers can create their own bespoke handbags at the Haute Maroquinerie, a private salon in Vuitton’s Bond Street store. [Vogue U.K.]

Last week, George Michael tweeted the news that Kate Moss would be the star of his new music video and now you can get a sneak peek at the supermodel’s performance.
