Call His Name: Alejandro

-------

“It’s my first real presentation, outside of my showroom, so I wanted to keep it really simple and precise,” shoe designer and fourth-generation cobbler Alejandro Ingelmo said at his Milk Studios presentation. “For me, less is more.” Not necessarily what you’d expect to hear from someone whose client roster includes Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj, and Britney Spears. (For those maximalists, at least, he obliged with the occasional Swarovski Elements-crystal embellishment.)

Nor was Ingelmo’s simple really all that simple. He showed towering leather platform sandals and sharply angled ankle boots in black, nude, silver, and gold—not exactly hop-on-the-subway fare. But he’s conscious of comfort; he’s a runner himself and often spotted in New Balances when he’s not wearing his own leather high-tops—so he’s done thick-strap flat sandals, too.

You’ll have to wait for spring to snatch up the new version of his best-selling Thriller, a gravity-defying platform that’s a blend of sexy straps and futuristic metallic leather. If you need to get your Ingelmo fix now, you can check out the Helmut Lang and Chris Benz Spring shows, both of which feature AI collabs. Or you can just head down to his recently opened boutique on Wooster in Soho.

The Diva Wore Givenchy

-------

The eagle-eyed Catherine Kallon at Red Carpet Fashion Awards performed one of her usual acts of fashion divination today: From a blurry, cell phone pic of Beyoncé shooting a new music video in the Mojave Desert, she’s managed to identify a Spring ’11 Givenchy Couture gown. (Time will tell if she’s right, but looks likely to us.)

But Queen B is only the latest diva to strap on one of the house’s showstopping couture creations. In the spirit of celebration, we’ve rounded up a few of our favorite high-drama ladies in Riccardo Tisci’s couture. Continue Reading “The Diva Wore Givenchy” »

Kasia For Miu Miu, Bieber For VF, Burton Won’t “Wipe The Slate Clean,” And More…

The Spring campaigns are coming fast and furious now, from Valentino to Marc Jacobs to, now, Miu Miu. One of our personal runway faves, Kasia Struss, stars in the Mert & Marcus-lensed ads. [Women]

Alexander McQueen designer Sarah Burton sits down with Vogue U.K. to discuss injecting more of herself into the McQueen label. “I’m not going to wipe the slate clean. That would be wiping me away,” she tells the magazine. “There will always be those McQueen elements, but at the same time, you can never stay still and you have to stay true to yourself. That’s what Lee drummed in to me: you have to be able to stand behind your work.” [Vogue U.K.]

And in Miami, hip-hop star Nicki Minaj reportedly celebrated a little too hard on New Year’s Eve—she split her leather dress. The show must go on, though, and it didn’t stop her from performing—she just summoned her stylist to the stage to do a little mid-song suturing while she sang. [Page Six]
