Blasblog: Burberry Transcends Mere Trunk Show

Hey, we’re in a recession here, people. So the idea of a trunk show where fancy ladies are magically drawn in by the allure of looking at next season’s wares with a cocktail in hand isn’t going to cut it nowadays. That’s why Burberry has stepped up the trunk show game. Last night, the British house invited Kelly Klein to sign copies of her giant coffee-table tome, Horse, and had L.A.-based musician Nico Stai give a special performance in the third floor Prorsum section of the store. Joining Klein and Stai (both pictured here) were Amy Greenspon, Eleanor Ylvisaker, Fabiola Beracasa, and Genevieve Jones. Fellow musician Diego Garcia commented, “The voice and the face don’t mix.” (I think that was a compliment, meaning that the crooner’s moody lyrics didn’t match his friendly smile. I think.) Ann Dexter-Jones came for Klein. “The only thing I like more than horses is Kelly,” she said with a smile. Meanwhile, Amy Sacco said her slipped disc meant that the closest she’s getting to those big ole animals is the book itself. “This is the new shopping experience,” mused Klein. “If only all shopping could happen in such an intimate environment with friends.” Well, as we know, there’s always another trunk show, but for more Stai, swing by Socialista tomorrow night. He and fellow Angeleno performer Rain Phoenix will be playing there from 9 pm.
