EXCLUSIVE: Maybelline New York Partners With Made

MADE FASHION WEEK SS12 at MILK STUDIOSIn the past few years, Made has steadily become a highlight amid the chaos of New York fashion week. Launched in 2009 to boost emerging talents, the twice-yearly project has become a hub for the style set, allowing everyone to catch shows by brands like Cushnie et Ochs, Public School, and Ostwald Helgason all in one place. Not to mention, the Meatpacking District venue is conveniently located next to New York’s best late-night bars and restaurants. (PS: The Spring 2015 designer lineup was just announced.)

This time around, Made has partnered with Maybelline New York for a revamped experience. Maybelline will be providing creative direction, backstage prep, and, of course, buckets of cosmetics and supplies for over 10 Made designers. The partnership will include the Made for Maybelline Film Project, a video incubator that will enhance the already-solid platform Made has provided its designers. The incubator will ask eight filmmakers to use mixed-media techniques to create a 30-second video inspired by the trends seen at the shows.

A panel of judges, including Milk Studios and Made cofounder Mazdack Rassi and Maybelline president David Greenberg, will award the best video with a fiscal donation and the chance to work on a bigger Made film project in February.

(They opted for the old-fashioned way.) Click here to watch. Catch the two performing live together at the MTV Video Music Awards on August 24. [E!]

Baby North flies solo…
It was only a matter of time before North West kicked off her modeling career. She appeared in Kim and Kanye’s Vogue spread, but the 13-month-old has just scored her first solo gig in the newest issue of CR Fashion Book. She was photographed by none other than Michael Avedon, grandson of Richard. [The Telegraph]

Dancers, runners, and yogis storm the runway…
Activewear brand Athleta has just announced its debut on the NYFW roster. Don’t expect a classic runway show, however. Dancers, runners, and yogis will all be rocking the latest pieces from Athleta as part of a two-story installation, choreographed by Luam Keflezgy (who has worked with the likes of Beyoncé and Britney Spears) and styled by Zanna Roberts Rassi. There will be a media show and another one open to the public on September 3 at 6 p.m. Here’s an early preview.

Crazy health trend of the day…
A new study shows that 100 bites of food in the day reportedly “adds up to 1,700 calories and 1,100 for women,” and people who counted their bites lost more weight than those who did not. To track your bite count, the researchers at Clemson University created the Bite Monitor, which is set to be released in about a year. Until then, we’ve lost count at 15…or was that 56? [Refinery29]

You’ll Pack A Lunch? Nah, Alpaca Lunch

Despite rumors to the contrary, fashion week is a time when you need to eat—not that the New York schedule makes that particularly easy. At least MADE is stepping in to help: The company will be passing out lunch boxes, designed by T-shirt wizards Dana Veraldi and Kevin Tekinel of Deer Dana (they of the Raf and Sade tees), ready for filling with the yogurt pretzels, almonds, and quinoa salad Walgreens is supplying backstage and at Milk Studios.

Yigal Azrouël’s NYFW Diary

In the leadup to New York fashion week, designers go through hundreds of behind-the-scenes preparations to arrive at the completed show. This NYFW, we’ve sweet-talked a few of them into giving us an exclusive peek behind the curtain as they cast, score, style, and ready their presentations. Up next: Yigal Azrouël.

“Model casting for the women’s Spring 2013 runway show has officially begun. It’s always exciting to see the girls who were in my show last season and meet some new faces. We were excited to work with casting director Piergiorgio Del Moro this season for the first time.”

“Fittings with our stylist Sara Moonves. This part of the process is always really exciting because the clothes start to come to life and take on the energy of the girl.”

“Adjusting this season’s custom-made sandals was trickier than I thought.”
