Gummy Bears, Mascara, And Berocca:
Your Complete NYFW Survival Kit

This week, the fashion pack descends en masse: New York fashion week begins officially on Wednesday (though many of us have shows and appointments as early as today). And how do the professionals prepare for a week-plus of no sleep, free Champagne, ten-show days, and endless nights? According to our expert panel—model Tao Okamoto, makeup maven Pat McGrath, street-style blogger Tommy Ton, Net-a-Porter buyer Holli Rogers, stylist Giovanna Battaglia, and more—with vitamins, gummy bears, mascara, kombucha, and jaunts to Turks and Caicos. (No, really.) Click here to check out their complete NYFW-prep regimens. And be thankful that however much you’re carting around over the course of the week, it’s gotta be less than Pat McGrath is: She and her 50 (!) assistants do the shows with up to 75 bags and up to 1,500 pairs of false eyelashes.

The View From Backstage At Versace

Francesca Versace—yes, of those Versaces—writes in from her jaunts around Milan fashion week.

It’s pouring in Milan, but nothing stops a Versace show. I head over to the Versace Teatroù in the flirty, electric blue Versus dress I decided on. Why not add a bit of thunder to all the rain?

I arrive at the show and duck backstage—my favorite part is seeing it all come together. I spot the outrageously gifted makeup artist Pat McGrath and the hair maestro Guido Palau, and all the bags and shoes ready to hit the runway. And all the amazing models in their natural habitat, so to speak—Abbey, Kori (getting ready, above), Freja (below), Ginta, all the top girls are here. I’ve always loved models. Thanks to my uncle Gianni, I never really had to play with Barbie dolls when I was a child. Who’d want to, when you had Claudia, Naomi, Linda, and Cindy to play dress up with?

Right away I spot my must-have dress: a fringed number printed with the Versace signature Grecian key. The fervor is escalating, and there’s my aunt Do, the calm eye of the storm, giving her final interview. Later, there’ll be an intimate dinner, and a raucous after-party—at one point, my cousin Allegra, January Jones, and I will all be dancing right in front of Hercules and Love Affair—but for now, it’s all about the show. I rush to my seat beside my father, Santo, to take it in.

Chloë’s London Debut

Chloë Sevigny has turned up in London from shooting a movie in Wales adapted from the autobiography of the drug smuggler Howard Marks. “It’s called Mr. Nice, and I’m playing his wife Judy,” she told a group of guests she’d invited to dinner at The Double Club, the London phenomenon underwritten by Miuccia Prada and designed by Carsten Höller, whose situationist installations have caught the imagination of Londoners since he designed a series of shute-tubes in the Tate Modern for the population and their kids to play on. Sevigny was there to check out the half-Congolese, half-Western setup and give friends, including Pat McGrath and Edward Enninful, James Kaliardos, Roland Mouret, and Katy England and her husband, Primal Scream’s Bobby Gillespie, the heads-up on her new collection for Opening Ceremony. She’ll be back in the Double Club on Sunday to present a “men’s collection for women,” she was telling everyone. The wide-legged navy slouchy pants she was wearing really whet the appetite.
