Ah, travel. That magical pursuit wherein one experiences the culture of another land, samples exotic delicacies, and, if traveling via Pirelli Calendar, sees a variety of top models in states of undress. At least, that’s the business as usual. But the Pirelli company unveiled its 2013 calendar in Brazil today, and while it stars a cast of beauties—Brazilians Isabeli Fontana and Adriana Lima, as well as Elisa Sednaoui, Hanaa Ben Abdesslem, Liya Kebede, Karlie Kloss, and Kyleigh Kuhn, among others—this year’s photographer, Steve McCurry, promises less cheesecake. “You can photograph nudes anywhere,” McCurry said at a press conference in Rio this morning. “But these models are clothed, and each of them has her own charity. They are purposeful and idealistic people. So I wanted to photograph them in a special place, and Rio was perfect for this.” (It’s a very different Brazil than was captured in Patrick Demarchelier’s 2005 calendar, also shot in the country, or Terry Richardson’s 2010 take.) Portraits of the models, as well as of Brazilian actress Sônia Braga and singer Marisa Monte, alternate with those of everyday life in the city.
Adriana Lima (pictured) is making history. The Brazilian model and Victoria’s Secret Angel is the first pregnant model to appear in the Pirelli calendar. Lima is expecting her second child with her husband, basketball player Marko Jaric. The 2013 edition of the famed calendar, which is known for its risqué photos, was shot in Brazil by Steve McCurry. Have you met Miss Wu? That’s the name of Jason Wu’s contemporary line created in collaboration with Nordstrom, named after the designer’s emblem of a hand-drawn owl. The collection will start with ready-to-wear, followed by accessories in 2014. “Instead of just doing ‘Jason Wu-for-less,’ the idea is to explore the other side of myself,” says Wu. [WWD]
Michael Kors is all about old Hollywood glamour, and it really shows in his Fall campaign. The designer tapped models Karmen Pedaru and Simon Nessman to play modern-day versions of the iconic pairing Carole Lombard and Clark Gable, in a Mario Testino-lensed photo shoot set in Los Angeles. This is the fifth time that the models have worked together for Kors. [WWD]
In other ad campaign news, the McQ Alexander McQueen Fall 2012 campaign, starring models Aymeline Valade and Arthur Gosse, has just been released. Valade sports a mullet-like blond ‘do in the minimalist black-and-white photos, shot by David Sims. [M-c-Q.com]

See our picks (above), including the A.P.C. five-year calendar (on sale already because 2011 is over) and a chic hand-stamped octopus calendar from Connor.

Dasha Zhukova’s new magazine, Garage, will make its official debut during fashion week, but The New York Times got a glimpse of it, dubbing it “one of the most intriguing magazines to come along in years.” Zhukova created three different covers, one of which is a Hedi Slimane photo of a nude model’s crotch, covered by a Damien Hirst-designed green butterfly sticker with a tattoo underneath.
