New York-based jewelry designers Jill Martinelli and Sabine Le Guyader started their Lady Grey line back in 2009 after setting up a studio in Brooklyn two years prior, where they produced one-of-a-kind sculptural works of art. Today marks a different kind of beginning for the brand, which is currently sold at retail stores like Curve and Selfridges, with the launch of their new online store. The e-commerce site (www.ladygreyjewelry.com) will offer the label’s baubles (with prices starting at $175 and topping off at $600) in exclusive styles and colorways, as well as pieces from the archives. Each month the store will be re-merchandised by guest curators including Chairlift front woman Caroline Polachek, Cushnie et Ochs designers Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs, and more. First up is their good friend Solange Knowles: “She knows how to pile on Lady Grey better than anyone,” said Martinelli. Starting today, customers can shop the Fall 2012 collection, entitled Darklands, which was inspired by the experimental accessorizing of the late seventies and early eighties—more specifically, the ladies of post-punk movements, like Lizzy Mercier Descloux. The pieces include trizoid cuffs and spear necklaces with Lady Grey’s signature crushed stones in oxidized silver and gold. Our favorites are the architectural rings. We’ll take one for each finger.
