Runway to Red Carpet: Gucci Girls and Sparkles Galore

-------

Beyonce and Blake LivelyThis week, it was Gucci, rather than film premieres, that drew the stars out in New York. Creative director Frida Giannini made a rare trip to the Big Apple to host a duo of parties, which were attended by Gucci-clad celebs including Beyoncé, Blake Lively, and Kate Mara.

On Tuesday, Giannini and co. feted Chime for Change, a charity founded by Giannini, Beyoncé, and Salma Hayek Pinault. Blake Lively showed her support in a mod mustard Fall ’14 Gucci frock with a leather-lined keyhole cutout down the front. Not to be outdone, Queen Bey looked flawless in a one-of-a-kind plunging white Gucci jumpsuit. The following evening, Kate Mara joined the fashion crowd in celebrating Gucci’s long-anticipated cosmetics launch. She chose a burgundy A-line number with a leather bodice from the Fall ’14 runway for the affair.

In London on Tuesday, stars turned out for Glamour‘s Women of the Year Awards. After making a splash on the red carpet, Naomi Campbell, Taylor Schilling, and Sarah Hyland snagged trophies. Schilling, who took home the Editor’s Special Award, and Hyland, who earned the Comedy Actress accolade, both opted for shimmery looks. Schilling went for Peter Pilotto’s plunging silver-sequined Fall ’14 dress, while Hyland opted for a sparkling Gucci Resort ’14 shift. Campbell, the TV Personality Award winner, was the most memorable in a red-and-black Alexander McQueen Spring ’14 feathered dress.

Runway to Red Carpet: Sparkles Galore and a Courageous Katniss

-------

Jennifer LawrenceWhile the subtle sparkle of diamonds is often the finishing touch on a red-carpet look, a few of the best ensembles of the week were doused with glittering crystals. Elizabeth Banks continued to hit the sartorial nail on the head as The Hunger Games: Catching Fire tour came to a close in New York on Wednesday. She shimmered in a bedazzled black ensemble from Jenny Packham’s Fall ’13 runway. The same evening in Las Vegas, Kate Bosworth chose a scintillating Spring ’14 Fendi frock completely covered in geometric Swarovski crystals for the premiere of her new film, Homefront.

Before finishing its whirlwind press tour in New York, Catching Fire held a star-studded premiere in Los Angeles on Monday, which brought out notables including Kiernan Shipka, Zoë Kravitz, and Sarah Hyland. Shipka charmed in a black silk sleeveless blouse and skirt embroidered with green and blue floral beading from Miu Miu’s Spring ’14 collection, and Kravitz opted for a Balenciaga Spring ’14 LBD with a wide neckline and buttons up the side. The nod for best dressed of the evening goes to the film’s leading lady, Jennifer Lawrence, in a daring sheer Dior Fall ’13 Couture gown with a full skirt over a strapless black bodysuit. We appreciate that Katniss is as fearless on the red carpet as she is in the arena.

Runway to Red Carpet: Sequined Lips and a Double Dose of Dolce

-------

Hailee SteinfeldLast Friday night, Teen Vogue kicked off the weekend with its annual Young Hollywood party to celebrate the silver screen’s rising stars. To no one’s surprise, Kiernan Shipka ranked among the best dressed of the evening. Stepping out in a black top and silver and black paisley-print pants from Emporio Armani, the 13-year-old starlet consistently masters the fine art of appearing mature and sophisticated yet youthful and age-appropriate at the same time. Modern Family’s Sarah Hyland was also in attendance in a white Clover Canyon frock with a playful print that featured everything from colorful florals to skiers racing down the hem of the skirt.

Tilda Swinton, the master of androgynous chic, continues to nail menswear-inspired trends on the red carpet. On Wednesday evening she accepted the Douglas Sirk Award at the Hamburg Film Festival in Germany in an all-black Haider Ackermann pantsuit, accented with a diamond brooch and striking red lips. The following afternoon, Chloë Grace Moretz and Julianne Moore gave us a double dose of Dolce at the unveiling of Moore’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Moretz paired red heels with her blush-pink Dolce & Gabbana dress, while Moore opted for a pale yellow dress with sparkles along the neck and wrists. Meanwhile, on Thursday in Madrid, Hailee Steinfeld donned a black diamond-patterned skirt with a kitschy Markus Lupfer sweatshirt covered in sequined pouty lips to a photo call for her new film, Ender’s Game. Paired with knee-high black Stuart Weitzman boots (and bangs!), Steinfeld put a fresh twist on schoolgirl chic.
