With all the black and white on the runway, the Fall ’13 collections are shaping up to be relatively print-free, but we’re not done with punchy patterns just yet. Since launching in 2004, London-based label Swash has become known for its quirky, whimsical, and completely original hand-drawn prints. Designed by Sarah Swash and Toshio Yamanaka, the line’s Spring range, which is based on the idea of a “May Day extraordinaire,” features a colorful mishmash of faded carousels, Maypoles, Victorian jelly castles, and Marie Antoinette coifs. Swash planted its pretty Spring pictures on everything from jumpsuits to ladylike blouses and skirts. But those who want to explore a more subtle sartorial fairy tale (head-to-toe illustration isn’t for everyone) might want to check out Swash’s latest collaboration. For the first time, the designers have teamed up with footwear label Animas Code to turn out a collection of printed satin slippers and mules. “We have always felt the slipper is a perfect canvas for Swash prints,” say the designers, who note that the collaboration with Animas Code will be long-term. In fact, in addition to launching a new swim collection in May, Swash is working on more collaborative kicks for Fall ’13. Looks like the season might have a few playful prints after all.
Swash x Animas Code will be available this month at Dagny + Barstow in New York.
