introducing the scottish fashion council

Given the Scottish National party’s recent success it should perhaps come as no great surprise that Scottish fashion is declaring its independence from London. Just in time for fashion week in the U.K. capital, where Scots (like Glasgow’s Christopher Kane, left) are some of the most buzzed-about designers on the roster, Tessa Hartmann of the TFF Agency is announcing the launch of the Scottish Fashion Council, which will operate independently of the British Fashion Council. Founding members include Kirsty Hume, Graeme Black, and Albert Watson, and plans include mentoring programs, fund-raisers, and opportunities for fashion students to meet with industry professionals. The goal, Hartmann says, is to offer “Scottish-based designers and fashion talent opportunities that are normally afforded to those who are London based. If we can sustain our own parliament, we can most certainly sustain our own Scottish Fashion Council.”
