Fashion Features on Forbes’ Most Powerful Women List

-------

Miuccia Prada takes a bow

Forbes released its 2013 list of the world’s most powerful women earlier today, and on it were social and political movers and shakers: Hillary Clinton, Michelle Obama, Nancy Pelosi, and Oprah Winfrey; megawatt stars: Beyoncé, Angelina Jolie, and Gisele Bündchen; and one or two surprises (Shakira at number 52, for example). But fashion’s power players held their own against heads of state (Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel came in at number one), businesswomen, and celebrities alike. Miuccia Prada (58), Diane von Furstenberg (74), newly crowned billionaire Tory Burch (69), Anna Wintour (41), and Burberry CEO Angela Ahrendts (52) all earned much-deserved spots on the list. Hats off to the industry’s—and the world’s—leading ladies.

Noticed: Jim Carrey

-------

The fashion-and-style scene has its share of celebrity goers-and-comers. But one that we’ve been noticing of late—maybe because, well, we didn’t peg him as the type—is rubbery comedian Jim Carrey. He cut a small but decided swath through fashion week and attended the dinner and after-party for Marchesa’s Spring ’11 collection. (Here he is above, meeting Marchesa designer Georgina Chapman, with husband Harvey Weinstein, as Rachel Zoe looks on.) He then got spotted by the fashion crowd at Tuesday’s Shakira concert at Madison Square Garden. (Several editors, including Style.com’s beauty editor, were on hand to see the Colombian pop star perform to celebrate the launch of her fragrance—though none were seen to take cell phone video of the performance, as Carrey did.) And last night, Carrey rubbed elbows with the hordes of Brazilian bombshells—Gisele and Fernanda Motta among them—at the after-party for the Brazil Foundation gala at the Boom Boom Room.

What gives? To be honest, we’re not sure. According to IMDB, he’s currently developing a film adaptation of Where’s Waldo?—maybe he’s researching striped clothing. (Two words in that case, Jim: Saint James.) Pet detectives, if you’ve got any more clues, feel free to leave them below.

Karl Dreams Of Lions, The Rise Of The Bleisure Suit, And More…

Meet Stéfan Lubrina, the man who makes Karl’s dreams come to life. No, really: Karl dreams of couture shows presided over by giant golden lions; Lubrina builds them (pictured). [IHT]

The World Cup comes to an end this Sunday, and Shakira is on hand to perform the official song, “Waka-Waka,” for its closing ceremony. She’ll be wearing Cavalli for the occasion—a pearl-embroidered tulle top, a silk fringed skirt, and a denim belt. [Vogue U.K.]

The final word on the men’s shows? “Bleisure.” That’s business + leisure, i.e., looks that are polished enough to be office-ready but casual enough to be comfortable—think Cary Grant in the off-hours. Somehow the term “bleisure” has a little less unforced cool than, say, Cary Grant, but we guess it’s better than “professual,” which apparently it edged out. [WSJ]

And the Emmy nominations are out! It’s a good morning if you’re in the cast of Glee, Lost, or happen to be Tina Fey. But we think every morning’s probably a good morning if you happen to be Tina Fey. [Gawker]

Le Sport, C’est Chic

-------

When it comes to good restaurants, even Francophiles agree that New York and Paris are just about even. But gyms? The Big Apple wins hands down. That is, until Klay opened in the City of Light’s Montorgueil neighborhood last month. It took owner Arthur Benzaquen (he also owns the tony Ken Club in the 16th arrondissement) three years to restore the Gustave Eiffel-era building into a five-story fitness nirvana, which has been described by one observer as a “very fashion model-singer-actress-Lou Doillon gym.” Shakira shook her groove thing there not long after it opened, and it’s all but guaranteed to be chock-full of catwalkers when Paris fashion week gets under way at the end of next month. If the yoga and Pilates classes and pool don’t win them over, its eatery, DEPUR, will. Jewelry designer-turned-decorator Josh Hickey did up the interiors in turn-of-the-century club mode. The terrace decor—currently picnic tables and imported Adirondack chairs—will change quarterly in proper modish fashion. Even we’d join a gym with privileges like that.
