After showing a collection seemingly geared to keep retailers happy, Yohji Yamamoto filed for bankruptcy today, which would explain this season’s (relative) lack of risk-taking. Let’s hope for something a bit more raw and deconstructed next season then, when we’re all rich again. [WWD]
The live-streaming runway trend took off this season, and you can bet your kitten heels we’ll be seeing many more online spectacles in seasons to come. If, like us, all this fashion immediacy makes you want those clothes Right Now, our Shop the Looks feature may help satisfy your buying desire. [NYT]
He’s so good at wearing them…why not make them? David Beckham is the latest celebrity to possibly join the designer ranks (his wife beat him to it) with a line of Beckham-branded underwear. He may not be “designing” them, per se, but we’re sure he’ll be doing lots of walking around in them, shirtless. [WWD]
Mentioning unmentionables, all the underwear on the runway begs the question: Does wearing lingerie make you look desperate? Only if you’re “professional or mature” and would perhaps be embarrassed “to wear such things.” So…no? [WSJ]
People have said to us, “Style.com is great, but why can’t I shop on the site?” Well, now you can. Starting this season, we’re introducing a new feature called Shop the Looks, and it’s designed to take advantage of our world-beating runway coverage to give discerning shoppers like you a head start on the trends.
We’re categorizing each look that comes down the runway into one of 36 trends, from boho to minimal, ladylike to military, draping to sheer. If something in one of our runway slideshows grabs your eye, simply click on the Shop the Looks link located to the right of the image. You’ll then find dozens of similarly themed looks from a range of top designers and retailers. Another click will take you directly to the retailer’s site—from runway to reality in a couple of seconds. For example, looking to pour yourself into the body-conscious trend that’s showing no signs of quitting this season? Just click here.
While we’re at it, we’ve also started a Shop the Looks blog, with regular updates on best sellers and great finds, as well as links to all the new shopping content. Just one caveat: Unfortunately, you can’t send your credit-card bills to us, though we’ll try and work on that for version 2.0.
