The Stylists Take The Stage

-------

Stars like Ginnifer Goodwin, Christina Hendricks, Abbie Cornish, Marisa Tomei, and Perrey Reeves kicked off Oscar week last night in L.A. at a private reception, sponsored by Dior and Vanity Fair, for artist Kimberly Brooks’ (pictured, with Tomei) exhibition The Stylist Project. Call it a favor returned—the subjects of Brooks’ oil portraits are the men and women who spend their days making sure the celebs look good. And since those stylists—Arianne Phillips, Liz Goldwyn, Mad Men costume designer Janie Bryant—most often spend their time behind the scenes (well, all except Rachel Zoe, another sitter), it was their night to shine. That’s not to say, of course, that the stylists are all retiring types. “I love that he’s talking and holding court,” said Tracee Ellis Ross after surveying the portrait of her friend, Decades’ Cameron Silver. Spoken like an actress. The man himself had professional concerns of his own. “All I cared about was looking young and skinny,” joked Silver, dressed in Alexander McQueen.

The Stylist Project runs through April 3 at Taylor De Cordoba, 2660 S. La Cienaga Blvd., L.A., (310) 559-9156, www.taylordecordoba.com.

Brian Reyes: City of Angels to City of Light

-------

Before heading to Paris for sales meetings, Brian Reyes and his newish team, including first-ever president Stephanie Cozzi, went west for a trunk show at Neiman Marcus in Beverly Hills, his exclusive stockist in L.A. The designer is lowering his prices for Spring and the collection benefited from the welcome boost. It’s no surprise, then, that Reyes and co. were all in excellent spirits at a dinner last night in the designer’s honor. Reyes was thankful for the moment of respite with friends like Tracee Ellis Ross and stylist Nicole Chavez. “Nicole was one of the very first people to support me out here,” said Reyes. “She actually went into Barneys and bought my dresses as soon as they first had come out.” Here’s to guessing which one of Chavez’s well-dressed starlets will be wearing Reyes’ bleeding-heart print first. We hear it’s going to be big for Spring.

Lunch With The Andrea Lieberman Fan Club

-------

To celebrate the launch of Andrea Lieberman’s label A.L.C., a dozen of the power stylist’s closest friends gathered for a luncheon at Barneys in Beverly Hills. “Obviously, I am her number one fan,” said longtime collaborator and client Gwen Stefani, with baby Zuma in tow. Clad in an A.L.C. jacket, Stefani added praise for Lieberman’s collection: “It’s everything that I love.” Fellow Andrea fans Ellen Pompeo, Leah Remini, Cameron Silver, and Tracee Ellis Ross joined the Barneys crowd for Champagne and a light lunch. “Her eye and interpretation of fashion is just flawless,” remarked Jennifer Lopez, wearing a white silk puff-sleeve A.L.C. dress. “When we started working together it was the whole ghetto-fabulous thing. We’ve moved into so many different looks and incarnations. She always has that modern edge.” The Spring collection, featuring zippered separates, belted cardigans, and soft jersey floor-length dresses, is full of wearable pieces that work dressed up or dressed down. “I’ve always traveled so much and never really had the appropriate thing to wear from Paris to New York to
London and L.A.,” said Lieberman, who has an eight-month-old baby. “It’s a balancing act, so I just take every day at a time. I’m a bicoastal mom and a bicoastal business.”
