Dress Up Like Beckham

Victoria Beckham

The only thing coveted so widely as Victoria Beckham’s husband? Her wardrobe. Happily, word came this morning that the former Spice Girl has partnered with designer sale shopping mecca The Outnet to offer up more than 600 of her previously owned garments for a good cause. A portion of the proceeds from the clothes (appraised by Christie’s, of course) will benefit mothers2mothers, a nonprofit with an eye to supporting mothers with HIV. Designer pieces (by the likes of Alexander McQueen, Roberto Cavalli, Roland Mouret, and more) ranging from Beckham’s time as Posh on up through present day will be available, among them 10 of her most iconic ensembles. Those who hope to shop the sale, which runs from August 20 to 25, can head over to The Outnet today to sign up.

Marina’s Must-Haves: VICTORIA Victoria Beckham’s Party Dress

Victoria BeckhamI can’t believe Pre-Fall collections are already hitting stores. There are so many things I still want from the Spring collections. Thankfully, markdowns are starting for the season, so I’ll be browsing around this weekend. I try to hold myself back and purchase only items that I can wear now, and this VICTORIA Victoria Beckham dress fits the bill perfectly. It has the updated silhouette that we’ll be seeing all over for Fall, but it’s sleeveless, so I can wear it to a couple of fancy parties I have this summer. The midnight navy is subtle, but the sequin panel skirt makes it pop.

Let’s Spend the Night Together: A Brief History of Celebrity Weddings Pre-Kimye

Audrey HepburnJudging by the tabloid fuss over Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s wedding weekend, you would think this is the first time two famous people have gotten hitched. But when the pair celebrate their nuptials in Florence—the original Kingdom of Dopeness—on Saturday night, they will be following in the footsteps of a wide range of celebrity couples before them. For instance, there was Sean Penn and Madonna’s 1985 oceanside Malibu wedding—attended by the likes of Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, and Cher—during which the groom scrawled FUCK OFF in the sand to deter airborne paparazzi. Going back further, there was Audrey Hepburn’s deeply elegant 1954 wedding to Mel Ferrer, for which she wore a custom Balmain tea-length gown. And who could forget David Beckham and Posh Spice’s nineties extravaganza, during which the latter donned a mini crown? Here, a look back at what happens when celebrities exchange vows.

Jobs Wanted: The Business of Fashion launches its new recruitment site in London

BofLondon’s top designers turned out for a dinner party to launch The Business of Fashion’s new recruitment site, BoF Careers, at Mayfair’s Morton’s Club last night. The concept of a fashion- and luxury-only recruitment site came to founder Imran Amed not long after he launched BoF back in 2007. As the site started to grow, so did Amed’s connections.

“People would approach me after shows, dinners, presentations, and ask questions like, ‘I am looking for a PR manager who speaks Mandarin, I am looking for a social media marketer—do you know someone?’ This happened enough times for me to think, Hey, there needs to be an online recruitment site for fashion and luxury only.” Industry heavyweights agreed: LVMH, Tory Burch, the Net-a-Porter Group, Swarovski, Ermenegildo Zegna, Lane Crawford, and Anya Hindmarch, who together employ almost 150,000 people worldwide, are BoF’s launch partners. The CFDA and BFC also became involved. “Starting right now, our seven partners will post their vacancies online, so those looking for employment in fashion worldwide will be able to start their search immediately.”

The evening was also a release party for the second issue of BoF magazine with cover star Victoria Beckham, who also, btw, is seeking a digital marketing intern exclusively on the site—résumés at the ready!
