missionfoodtour

Last weekend I decided to explore the Mission District. It’s known for its colorful murals, spirited cultural celebrations, and, probably most of all, its delicious food. Friends have raved about food tours in the Mission, and now I know why.

First we ventured to Mission Pie to try its potato gratin tart and apple pie. Both were insanely good. And dangerous, because I may have to head back this weekend for another slice of both…

Next up was La Taqueria, an institution famed for its burritos. We chowed down on chips with guacamole and a huge veggie burrito. Sadly, it was a bit disappointing, so I’m still on the hunt for the best burrito in S.F. Watch this space.

Last up were the dessert courses. Dynamo Donuts serves the most gourmet doughnuts I’ve ever seen (below). Among the options are caramel de sel, apricot cardamom, and lemon thyme. Feeling stuffed, we headed to La Copa to complete the gluttony with the best gelato in the city (I recommend the cookies-and-cream classic).

Suffice it to say, the Mission treated us well. We rolled home happy to have explored such an eclectic part of the city. Isn’t it time you explored a new neighborhood in your city?
