Inspired by International Women’s Day (March 8, 2014), I wanted to talk about a respected name in the architecture and interior-design scene of Turkey, Zeynep Fadillioglu.

Zeynep has always been a storyteller through her designs and her background in history. She created her company, ZF Design, in 1995, which has since completed more than 140 projects, including the design of the famous Sakirin Mosque (below). Zeynep is the first female interior designer of a mosque, as well as the first woman to design a mosque in modern Turkey. This has earned Zeynep international respect, and she has become an inspiration for women all over.

Similar to the way her native city, Istanbul, mixes the East and the West, the traditional and the contemporary, Zeynep blends these things in all of her designs. Her visual stories merge through histories, mixed cultures, colors, textiles, and textures.

Her company has recently launched a new furniture collection consisting of beautiful tables, seating units, and, soon, accessories and lighting elements. Having one of Zeynep’s pieces in your home is like having the essence of the past, the present, and the future in your house…a sense of timelessness.
