This week, I took a crazy trip to Thailand and Cambodia, a real dream come true. As much as I was overwhelmed with breathtaking temples and perfect beaches, I decided to write about fashion. This is, after all, Style.com, and fashion is our heart.
I was certainly not disappointed in Bangkok. It was a major surprise to find fresh, inspiring, and I would even say liberating fashion in the fast-paced Eastern giant.
Siam Center is a new concept of mall/department store. The venue is part of the larger Siam Paragon, which consists of three malls all together, where one can find items from Uniqlo to Saint Laurent, Topshop to Hermès.
To my great delight, among the global offerings, I found a local space with an extravagant selection from the cool, free-spirited, and young-at-heart Thailand. The spot where these stores are located is called Ideaopolis at Siam Center. This place absolutely got my full attention and excitement.
The venue is located on the third floor of the complex. It is a self-proclaimed “arena of imagination and creativity without limits in art, fashion, technology, and lifestyle.” It also provides a direct tunnel to the Bangkok Art & Culture Centre (which is across the street), with exhibitions and art shops.
The space features several different shops—mostly local and unknown—and it is also a center for digital innovations, special events, and especially fearless fashion. The touch screens guide you through the venue, but brands such as Tube Gallery, The Wonder Anatomies, Theater Bangkok, and AB-Normal provided me with a splash of freshness I haven’t found in New York or London for quite a while.
Such a combination of uniqueness and newness blew me away. Let’s keep an eye on Bangkok.
