The Spring 2015 season in Brazil ended with Fashion Rio and its sexy summer fashions. Among many casual brands and shows for the youth market, the highlights from Rio de Janeiro are always swimwear. Below are my top three shows:

Patricia Viera

3. PatrĂcia Viera

PatrĂcia Viera is an expert in leather, with a softness and style that is all hers. The designer is the sister of Andrea Dellal and aunt of the It girls Harley Viera-Newton, Charlotte Olympia, and Alice Dellal. This season, she proved, more than ever, the versatility of her work in leather, with statement hippie-chic pieces for well-traveled women. The entire collection was inspired by Punta del Este and summer resorts, and the designer made reference to gypset style with the use of handmade crochet mixed with laser-cut leather.

2. Osklen Beach

Designer Oskar Metsavaht invited Bianca Brandolini d’Adda and Alexia Niedzielski (from System magazine) to develop Osklen’s second line, Osklen Beach. The collection had a retro sensibility mixed with references to European summers and cool carioca attitude. Sixties-inspired swimsuits, tops, and high-waisted skirts, jumpsuits, and hot pants were presented in a mix of metallics and neutrals with tropical Brazilian symbols, such as pineapples and palm trees.

1. Lenny Niemeyer

Lenny Niemeyer is known as the queen of beachwear. Her show that closed the Brazilian season finished with an emotional standing ovation from the crowd. The inspiration behind the collection was botanic, and the designer went way beyond swimwear to create raw textures and a profusion of 3-D prints of flowers on bikinis, swimsuits, dresses, and summer suits.
