Graanmarkt 13 is a combination of a department store, a restaurant and a gallery all housed in a beautiful building in Antwerp’s city center. Its niche fan base strives to keep the name hushed up, for fear of having their favorite bolt-hole inundated, because Graanmarkt 13 has something special to offer–it’s the perfect European getaway under one roof.
As of today, you will be able to rent the building’s exclusive rooftop apartment to enjoy with your friends/family/lover. The project is the brainchild of the incredible Vincent Van Duysen who, with his characteristic warmth, designed the uber-cool yet wholly welcoming space. “A place for all the good things in life to happen,“ he says of the apartment.
Wake up in the morning to natural light streaming through the windows of your stunning new home, then sate your cultural cravings at the exhibition located one floor below with the work of emerging art talents. Shop cutting-edge fashion downstairs and spoil yourself with some home collectibles on the ground floor.
Finish off your tour with a refuel at the restaurant manned by esteemed chef Seppe Nobels. The daily harvest of locally sourced fresh ingredients are transformed into light, healthy, and delectable dishes. Their vast selection of over 90 different herbs and vegetables are plucked straight from the earth of the Graanmarkt 13 garden and are on your plate within the hour. Even the honey with your breakfast is taken from the on-site beehives.
Graanmarkt 13 creators Tim and Ilse set out with the plan to make a calming idyll in the heart of the city that could sustain itself and satisfy the dreams of their customers. They haven’t only succeeded in pioneering a new format for the commercial public space that is sure to set precedence for others across the globe, they have made a home away from home for any would-be traveller.
