It is really amazing to see the final show after six months of witnessing the hard work, the creating, the planning, the organizing, and everything else behind Umit Benan’s Spring ’15 collection, Tennis Club de Cartagena!
After removing his show from the Milan fashion week lineup, Umit had his show last Sunday, on the last day of the Paris men’s fashion week.
Umit is a great storyteller; it is always a story, always with amazing, real characters who inspire him. With his collections, there is always a raw yet refined elegance and an interest in masculinity in its boldest, most unabashed expressions.
This season, he brought us to a members-only tennis club, amid the sun-kissed, sultry atmosphere of Cartagena, Colombia. He mixes the exclusiveness of this noble sport with the danger and fun of the uninhibited Colombian lifestyle, keeping in mind the images of Slim Aarons: unforgettable documents of the jet set enjoying endless vacations at a time when traveling around the world was the favorite activity of the privileged.
The collection is bold, with remarkable ease. The silhouette is neat, with a sense of functionality. And so Umit brings back the pleasure of dressing up, focusing on personality and freedom as the true qualities of the contemporary, self-confident male.
And, of course, the stellar street casting was impressive, as it has been with Umit since he started his collections. They were like amazing movie characters wearing the looks—and so real as well.
Cheers, darling. I’m so proud of you!
