With the World Cup drawn to a close only a few weeks ago, many felt a collective sigh of relief. Yet in New York, eyes are still on football this summer, albeit this time in a more style-friendly way.
While football is such a huge part of English culture, in the U.S. “soccer” (as you guys like to call it) is something of a new interest; with the advent of Beckham’s stint in L.A. not long ago, and Thierry Henry joining New York’s Red Bulls, America’s fondness for soccer continues to be on the rise.
Enter Associated, the soon-to-launch football/style magazine by my friend Allan Kennedy, a stylist and Scot in equal measure. I worked with Allan many years ago, at Arena, and now he lives and works in New York, alongside his friend and feted art director Steven Baillie.
According to Kennedy, the magazine “will document the unique culture of soccer in New York City. It will be stylish and authentic, with sharply written editorial and epic and dynamic photography. Associated will be a focal point for the soccer-loving community of New York City and a standard-bearer for soccer and style in the USA.”
