A humbling part of collaborating with such talented women is to see their incredible work celebrated. This week, I get the pleasure of taking part in an annual dialogue about the art of fashion, in which several of the Rika magazine collaborators will be honored.

In just three short years, the Edinburgh Fashion Festival has made an impressive mark on the international scene. Relatively free from the see-and-be-seen flash and corporate sponsorships of fashion weeks and art fairs, this annual event assembles creative luminaries for an interdisciplinary brainstorm. It takes place in the form of runway shows, exhibitions, gala parties, interactive workshops, and discussions in some of the most beautiful venues in Edinburgh.

The Festival director, Anna Freemantle, curated an exhibition of Helena Christensen’s work for Rika magazine. As a longtime admirer of Helena’s brilliant, sensitive photography, it’s inspiring that her career in fashion continues to evolve as both a model and an artist.

Additionally, Freemantle invited several other Rika muses. Model, artist, and friend Saskia de Brauw’s artwork is honored in an exhibition called The Accidental Fold. A collection of ephemera of daily life—from torn pieces of paper, playing cards, and ribbons to feathers and orange peels—is given confessional beauty through Saskia’s eyes.

Mother and daughter Amanda and Tallulah Harlech will speak about the inspiration that stories, poetry, and prose give their work.

The girls are in good company with fellow past and present EFF participants such as Gareth Pugh, Stella Tennant, and Juergen Teller.

The Festival runs through July 25. For more information and tickets, visit
