Few things could make me more grateful for the opportunity to live in South Africa than the snowy start to menswear market week in NYC. The (capsule) show, where we’re showing the Unknown Union collection, was as impeccably curated and organized as ever, but there was nothing to be done about the weather. When the show closed at 7 p.m. and the blizzard continued unabated, not a single cab was to be found on the far east side of Manhattan. To keep myself warm while trudging through the snow, I cast my mind back to the road trip I took to Namibia over Christmas.
Our final destination was to be Fish River Canyon, the second largest canyon in the world, next to the Grand Canyon. There we would spend Christmas Eve and Day in the middle of the desert at the Gondwana Canyon lodge. With this trip, the journey was the goal as much the destination, and these are some of the sights we saw along the way.
After almost running out of gas, getting extremely lost in a desert without cellphone service, and changing a flat tire in 120-degree heat, we made it. The view was worth it…
