Over the holidays, I did a lot of skiing, snowboarding, eating, and eating some more. And it was all because of Murmeli, a Hansel-and-Gretel kind of lodging on the Oberlech slopes.
Annemarie, the co-owner, is no gingerbread witch, but rather the most good-natured host, who welcomes her guests with the broadest of smiles. And her husband Wolfgang’s cooking induces an instant Pavlovian response that made me lose myself in their food.
I could not wait to sit and hoover their hot, cream-free pumpkin soup and their shrimp wok, topping it with delicious kaiserschmarrns (Austrian pancakes). I convinced myself that I deserved every yummy calorie after all the skiing. I was even tempted to dive into their famous spinach ravioli but somehow held myself back. My favorite drink at Murmeli is their fresh, homemade elderflower, and I was always embarrassed about the number of bottles that I managed to finish during lunch.
Should you want to try my gluttonous exercise regimen during the Christmas holidays, be aware that Annemarie is now taking reservations for December 2016, due to the loyalty of her clients and the size of her restaurant!
February and March are easier bets, especially if you want to enjoy the panoramic view from their terrace.
