Most of New York was abuzz this past week thanks to the Armory Show at Piers 92 and 94. Folks, myself included, made the journey to midtown to check out works by art stars—from Tracey Emin to Warhol—and get some culture. I spent a good deal of time at the Armory Show, and I had mentioned to a friend of mine that I always preferred new, modern, cutting-edge art over modern or pre-sixties art. With that said, we quickly ditched the Armory and headed over to Scope to check out the newest in the art world. Much to my surprise, I was blown away by what was there…
With pieces from the likes of Banksy, Scope was the answer to what I was looking for in terms of the coolest, newest stuff out there. For some reason, every year at Basel I’ve skipped this event, but moving forward I’m pretty sure this will be my first stop. There was a newness to the art that I didn’t see at the other shows, and I always love discovering what’s hip and fresh. Next time the art fairs come to town, check out Scope first, then the others. I have a feeling you’ll find it inspiring…after all, it’s all about the next generation.
