coco's home decorating tips
Kirsten Dunst hosted an event with "Lula" magazine and Chanel on the rue Cambon last night, and anyone who had assumed it was just another shop party was painfully mistaken. First of all, it was in the couture salon, not any old retail space. Secondly, with its mirrored staircase (atop which Coco would sit and watch her shows and the reactions of her front row guests) and Mademoiselle's personal apartment (which have been untouched since she moved over to the Ritz), Number 31 is a symbol of one of fashion's biggest brands. For some lucky VIP guests, Karl Lagerfeld and his staff gave tours of the upstairs salon, which, in the case of Rachel Bilson, left quite an impression. "It's kind of inexplicable," said the actress, who was wearing one of the house's pink cocktail dresses when she came back down from the Chanel heavens. "But you still get that feeling about how much life was there, and the inspiration. Like she had the quilted pillows that inspired the quilted patterns on the bags." The chandeliers, the symmetry (Coco liked things in pairs), and even the themes of sheaves of wheat were other aspects of the apartment that caught Bilson's eye. But her favorite detail? "That Dalí portrait of Coconow that is amazing."
