Amaya

On Thursday night, an exhibition showcasing the works of Spanish designers from Madrid’s latest round of fashion shows opened at the Queen Sofia Spanish Institute on Park Avenue. Oscar de la Renta and Carolina Herrera were among the New Yorkers who came out to show their support. "I’m a big fan of some of the talents on display here," said their fellow designer Angel Sanchez. "Sybilla, with her unique patterns and volumes, was a huge influence on me in the eighties before I started my career. But it hasn’t always been easy for Spanish designers to cross over to an American audience." Shoppers looking for an alternative to all of the florals and exotic colors that will be on offer in stores come January should book a trip across the pond. Many of the looks on display at the show, including the tulle dress by Amaya Arzuaga (above), came in that fashion favorite, black.
