Noovo, the international fashion and photography competition that debuts this week in Santiago de Compostela, plans to do for Spain what Hyères has done for France. “The fundamental objective of the Noovo festival is to launch future talents from Spain and, in particular, Galicia while simultaneously introducing international talent to the region,” says Charo González, who along with Jorge Margolles is a co-director of the event. Various Spanish design schools have their best students competing, while internationally recognized designers and photographers such as Boudicca, Gareth Pugh, Eley Kishimoto, Threeasfour, Seb Janiak, Ana Laura Alàez (above), and Dino Dinco are all showing their work. With a jury that’s composed of Martine and Armand Hadida (founder and director, respectively, of L’Eclaireur in Paris), Joseph Quartana of Seven, and Zowie Broach of Boudicca, these Spanish lessons in fashion are gearing up to be the real deal. And, perhaps for the first time in history, it will be fashionable to be called Noovo.
