downtown, fashion lives on

The downtown nightlife demimonde came out last night to support David and Phillipe Blond's first official presentation, held at the Prince George Ballroom. The duo, who have been designing together since 2005, created a collection built upon two films: Ridley Scott's "Legend" (1985) and "Wonderwall" (1968), a surrealist fairy tale starring Jane Birkin. "It's refreshing to see someone who just goes for it," said eternal club kid Kenny Kenny. Otherwise, he continued, "fashion is dead. It's like a dead dog lying in the road. This town is sick of it, but David and Phillipe work against the grain and bring back high glam." He wore a tipped black Playboy Bunny hat, jacket, and stockings with garters. The Blonds delivered, and each of their ensembles was more outrageous than the next. A red, Swarovski crystal-encrusted corset with horns drew cheers from the crowd, as did another corset made entirely of gold chains. We asked Kenny how he survives in our fashion-anemic city. "I'm still here, clinging!" he said. "I'm going to Madrid for three months; I just want to run around in my panties and heels and have a good time!" We know how you feel, Kenny.
