“I like Milan during fashion week, but out of season it’s a bit too sleepy for me,” says Vanity Fair’s Michael Roberts. When pressed on his city favorites, he admitted, “I prefer not to go to the obvious places. I like underground traditional, where good food is the priority.” These include the wood-paneled Baretto at the Baglioni (Via Senato 7). “It’s where Diego della Valle and I like to meet. And on crisp and foggy winter nights nothing is more evocative than Osteria i Valtellina (Via Taverna 34), set deep in the park that separates Linate airport from Milan.” When we asked him for places that he thought were uniquely Milanese, Roberts mentioned a shop on Via Monzoni that sells maid and butler uniforms, as well as the manicure sets at
Lorenzi (Via Montenapoleone 9).
