Could Vanessa Bruno have her sights set on a new market? Judging by her Fall ‘08 collection, we’re wondering if she’s planning on exporting her brand of cool-French-girl minimalism to Russia—the models were styled to look like modern-day czarinas in high-waisted, strictly tailored suits complete with military details and feathered, Siberian-style hats. Turns out she was thinking of another country altogether: Romania. “I was thinking of Dracula’s bride and wanted the cut and structure of the garment to have that ‘moth’ feeling,” she told us. “The mix of colors—navy, cream, mauve, and gray—were chosen for the same reason.” That explains that.
