Pier 94 swarmed with people last night to celebrate the tenth edition of the Armory Show. English sounded borderline exotic, as the majority of exhibitors (and attendees) this year are European. And as expected at art fairs, the fashion and the art were in direct competition. Despite the somewhat chilly temperatures, women wore girly spring dresses (though some, like Poppy de Villeneuve, did pair them with black tights), while men opted for fitted suits, either pinstriped or all-black. However, the hottest accessory at the party wasn’t a metallic pendant or a crocodile clutch, but an Apple laptop—people were plugged in just about everywhere, closing deals as they drank cocktails. One well-heeled older European man was even overheard saying to another, “Why haven’t you accepted my friend request on Facebook?”
