Piero Lissoni’s By New York loft was the site of dual Fall presentations for Lizzie Fortunato Jewels and Timo! Wallets last night. Many of the women in the room were wearing jewelry by Fortunato, including Alexandra Richards, who, in addition to a “Get Yourself Free” necklace of chiffon rosettes, brass and leather pendants, and vintage gold buttons, sported cutoff denim shorts over tights. Some of our favorite pieces included necklaces with pendants made from 1920’s etched whalebone poker chips, picked up on a trip to Uruguay. “There’s only like a thousand of them left in the world, and we want them all!” declared the designer. Timo! Wallets also works a sustainable vibe, using soy ink, post-consumer vinyl, and recycled plastic cases. A bow-tied Timo Weiland told us that he’d found an alternative to sweatshop labor: “We use art students, and we pay them.” Maybe he found some new ones at the Crystal Castles concert at Brooklyn’s Studio B, where we spotted him several hours later?
