social of the moment

Name: Lauren Remington Platt
Age: 23
Occupation: Finance
Pet Causes: Columbia College Young Alumni Fund for Financial Aid, New Yorkers for Children, and Hartley House
FYI: The statuesque blonde, whose patrician good looks have drawn comparisons to another Lauren (Santo Domingo, that is), grew up on her family's farms in New Jersey and Connecticut. Platt graduated from Columbia University and is pursuing a career on Wall Street. Her cohorts on the social circuit include her younger sister Ashley and pals from her modeling days.
What's the best party you've gone to recently? A friend's 30th birthday party in Rome. The theme was Studio 54, and all 800 guests followed the "extravagant seventies" dress code very seriously. They even had foam everywhere!
Do you have any designer alliances? I like to support emerging designersKisa and Alexandra Vidal are my current favorites. But I do have a weak spot for anything Oscar de la Renta or Valentino.
What's in your evening clutch? Roman Holiday lipstick by Nars, my BlackBerry, safety pins, cash, and a Metrocard.
When I'm at an event and no one is talking to me, I pretend to text message. What's your strategy? Stand there and look like I have no one to talk to. It's OK to not be with someone at all times. It makes you more approachable. I've met some really interesting people I otherwise would not have had the chance to talk to if I was constantly surrounded by friends.
What's the best post-party hangout? I usually don't last to the "post"! But I enjoy Rose Bar as a good evening-gown preservation destination, and my new favorite weekend hot spot is 1 Oak.
What's the best way to get out of an awkward conversation? A conversation is a two-way street, so if there is awkwardness you are 50 percent to blame. You should always smile, be friendly, and make the other person feel at ease.
On what occasion will you hit the dance floor? When I have a great dance partner; usually it's my sister.
When do you call it a night? Early. It's not how long you go out, it's how effectively you go out!
