live and learn

Pencey

The books in Buddakan's subterranean library may be wallpapered on, but the crowd that gathered last night did have classics on the brain. Former stylist Christina Minasian debuted her contemporary line, Pencey, named after the prep school Holden Caulfield attends in J.D. Salinger's "Catcher in the Rye." Classy with a touch of rebelliousness, the fall collection featured banded dresses, oversize tops, metallic pants, and poufy skirts with feather underlayers. As an added bonus, editors were given Nintendo DS handhelds complete with Pencey-designed fringed carrying cases. The included game was Brain Age, a series of puzzles and activities designed to train your brain, because (according to the enclosed card) "learning never goes out of style." Now that's something we can get behind.
