outside the comfort zone

He may've been a little bleary-eyed at first, but after meeting the pretty blondes who'll be hosting a cocktail party for him (and modeling his wares) at Bergdorf Goodman tonight, a fresh-from-JFK Roland Mouret seemed to pep up quite quickly. It was teatime at the Carlylean appropriate venue for a designer of sophisticated fashions, he notedyesterday afternoon, and his fascinated audience included Byrdie Bell, Sylvana Soto-Ward, and Lauren Remington Platt, the aforementioned pretty blondes. "I thought I should meet the women I'm spending the night with tomorrow," Mouret said of his three hostesses. "And I honestly couldn't think of three more appropriate ladies." Talk revolved around the obvious: the unexpected snowfall in London this past weekend, the sunny day New York was having, and Soto-Ward's recent engagement. All three ladies will be dressed in Mouret's creations ("My dress is THE dress," Soto-Ward crowed. "I was smart and was the first to pick."). There was also some discussion about the designer's notorious high-heel fetish. Soto-Ward thought she was already tall enough, but Bell admitted she didn't mind the towering effect. "I think a woman always looks better in high, high heels," Mouret said of his six-inch show shoes, which prompted a question from Bell: "Are they comfortable?" Responded the designer: "No, not at all. But that's not the point."
