the socialite and the stuntman

At last night's New Yorkers for Children party at the Mandarin Oriental ballroom in the Time Warner Center, every reveler had something to feel happy about: Close to half a million dollars was raised to help young people in the New York City foster-care system get into educational programs and adjust to post-foster-care life. But there was one Missoni-clad guest (the Italian fashion house was the evening's sponsor, so there were a lot of zigzags and colorful knits in evidence) who had an extra big smile on her face: the recently engaged Joy Bryant. The bride-to-be admitted she hadn't even thought about setting a date or a place or a menu or a color scheme or a font for the invitations"now you're making me all nervous," she said, when reminded of the rather lengthy checklist for wedding prep. "So let's just say next year, to be safe. I haven't even thought about a dress." And then, tapping her friend Margherita Missoni on the shoulder, Bryant asked, "Does Missoni do wedding dresses? Do they want to do one?" As for the lucky man himself, his name is Dave and he's a stuntman. "He's flying to Chicago to do all these wild stunts tomorrowthey're throwing him through a wall, or something ridiculous," said Bryant, who hightailed it out of there before her friends convinced her to go anywhere but home after dinner. "And probably other things, toobut now I tell him not to tell me too much. I can handle knowing they're going to throw him through a wall, I guess. But not much more."
