It's safe to say that driving a Prius definitely gets you more cred than tooling around in an Escalade these days, but why not take it one step further and swap the hybrid for a two-wheeler? That's the premise behind Matthew Modine's environmental organization, Bicycle for a Day, (BFAD) a group dedicated to heightening awareness of the need for eco-friendly transportation alternatives. Last night, Tumi, which collaborated with Modine to design a limited-edition bike bag and BFAD dog tag, launched its own green initiative at NYC's Chelsea Arts Tower, celebrating Earth Day by pledging to plant 100,000 trees through various reforestation projects. "It's so important to raise awareness about going green right now," Tumi creative director David Chu noted. "And Matthew's such a passionate guy!" Much of that ardor was evident in a series of elegantly rendered, specially commissioned photos the actor and amateur shutterbug took while visiting reforestation sites in California, some of which will be on display in select Tumi store windows nationwide this month. Photographic endeavors aside, maybe the newly design-savvy actor has a lucrative future in fashion. "If the film thing doesn't work, I've got a job making bags," Modine laughed.
