Your New Boots, Gently Used (By NYFW Models)
Nowadays, simply stocking up-and-coming designers isn’t enough for online boutiques. In order to maintain their edge, sites like Of a Kind and the soon-to-launch NMRKT are offering small batches of exclusive pieces from tyro labels like Kaelen. Just three collections deep, Kaelen Farncombe’s namesake line is gaining momentum: She’s sold at established boutiques like L.A.’s Satine and New York’s Thistle & Clover, as well as blockbuster retailers like Shopbop.com and Intermix. But NMRKT will be peddling a special limited edition: the shoes that models wore for Kaelen’s Fall ’11 presentation. Farncombe scoured thrift stores citywide for vintage lace-up boots, then had artist pal Audrey Louise Reynolds hand-paint each distressed pair. And if you need something to wear them with, you could do worse than Kaelen’s floor-length, printed silk dress, a digital replica of a paint-spattered floor.
NMRKT launches in two to three weeks; for more info on Kaelen, visit www.kaelennyc.com.
