Organization. The city's runways have been centralized for the first time, with 26 designers showing at the Standard Downtown hotel, under the auspices of Mercedes-Benz Shows L.A. In a controversial move, Smashbox Studios held simultaneous shows for 12 other L.A. labels.

It's their turf, so why wouldn't stars be part of the action? Highest celeb density: Imitation of Christ, where Reese Witherspoon, Anjelica Huston, Sheryl Crow, Owen Wilson and Mena Suvari were seen, among others. Fastest flyby: Britney Spears came late and left early at Joey and T (Ozzie and Sharon stayed to watch daughter Aimee model). Best bopping while seated: Janet Jackson at David Cardona. Omnipresent: The Hilton sisters.

Magda Berliner's short, sharp show included delicate deconstructed minis and a beautiful laser-etched pony jacket. Lotta reprised her hit Indian-tinged sportswear. Trina Turk and Twelfth Street by Cynthia Vincent put their stamp on current trends with smart, strong pieces.

Looking for California's darker side? Go directly to David Cardona, whose success with tough and sexy sportswear just got him named the new designer for Cerruti. Pop culture got a spin at Heatherette's Hello Kitty–meets–Andy Warhol moment.

The main topic of conversation wasn't the celebrity turnout (significant), Joey and T's micro minis (skimpy) or the cut of Frankie B's jeans (subterranean). It was the Standard's pricey $25 valet parking (shocking!).
