Originally from Singapore, Gn is based in Paris, where he debuted a line of sophisticated knit and jersey separates in 1996. He's been slowly, steadily building his business since then.
Lavish use of couture savoir faire: embroidery, embellishment, and elaborate custom fabrics. Gn has a penchant for Asian florals, but he's also drawn to the Belle Epoque and Victoriana, as seen in his Fall/Winter 2003 line.
With a staff of just four, Gn has neither a press office nor a publicist. Yet his New York trunk shows—organized by London jewelry designer Katherine Prevost, a friend and client—have attracted the who's who of high society.
Oh, you know: the Lauder sisters, Brooke de Ocampo, Nadja Swarovski, Helen Lee Schifter, Cosima von Bulow, Marie Chantal of Greece, Tamara Mellon, to name a few. (And Mariah Carey went on a Gn binge at New York's Kirna Zabête.)
Finally, you asked! Gn is pronounced "Gen," to rhyme with "pen." Start practicing now...

—Katherine Weisman
