January 6, 2006
Buy those Paddington bags while they last. With yesterday's resignation announcement by Phoebe Philo, Chloé's influential British creative director, those already popular totes, along with her new A-line dresses and chunky wood wedges, are destined to become collector's items. During her nine seasons at the helm of the storied Paris house, which she inherited from Stella McCartney, Philo's talents for practical tailoring and pretty dresses made the label a favorite of such celebrities as Natalie Portman and Jennifer Connelly. For spring, in a departure from her signature bohemian-chic style, she baptized a new look that evoked the innocence of the early sixties. Philo cited a desire to spend more time with her family as one of the reasons for her decision, but let's hope she finds her way back to the fashion arena in the not too distant future. In the meantime, here's a look at some of the designs that made her a familiar name in a relatively short period of time.
